Rings or valves?

I was told they're process to check the compression is to use a gauge on each cylinder/valve, I can't remember the term used. Then they have a process to figure out if the seats and rings are wearing evenly. So I'm not sure how the process was to figure it out. I just know I saw them going through the process.

very supportive group of guys with a healthy skepticism about Honda's 600 mile first service. I believe you, and a proper compression check would have satisfied me about both rings and valves. If you cooked any engine combustion sealing component in your (HOT break in) it would have failed the compression check.

I did it a bit early as i switched to all synthetic oil.

I did as well. I changed the oil @ 600 with the dealer. Did the second change myself at 1200mi. Switched to Amsoil 10w30 Synthetic. I figure for warranty sake, I'll bring it in to the dealer at 2500mi to have them do the valve check.

I recently changed the oil (first time) after 1000 kms, and the "filter" and oil were in perfect condition:

How dare you. Nice not to see any particles at all. You can run the oil through a coffee filter too but it looks pretty good.

Some one posted for a new engine in the break in crowd;

Fire the engine and let it warm up, take a 1/4 throttle pass. Shut it down and let the engine cool.
Run the engine through a 1/2 throttle pass, and let it cool.
Run the engine through a 3/4 throttle pass, and let it cool.
Run the engine trough a full throttle pass, let it cool --- now go racing.

You need enough cylinder pressure to get the rings to seat properly but you need to give the rest of the engine time to get happy too. A new engine will invariably have some tight spots, and you want to give them a chance to burnish in without over heating them. The thermal cycles also help to get all the gaskets settled in, and if you have an engine that needs re-torquing of heads or adjusting of mechanical valve lash (and PCX owners do) that needs to settle in as well.

The final drive oil was worse

But if someone else knows more, by all means please say so.

This is indeed normal. It won't always be the case, but it will be more often than not.
