New Forza 300 - 1st Impressions

Any possibility someone can tell me what the load carrying capacity is on the new Forza 300?

I can't seem to find that anywhere. . .. Maybe it's because it's still not available in North America. Most of the other details are fairly easy to find and the postings here are obviously a great source of information.

I was surprised when I saw that the load carrying capacity on the Yamaha XMax is just a couple of pounds more than the SMax. About 353 lbs. for the SMax vs. 355 lbs. for the XMax. And there is about a 69 lb. difference in the curb weight between the two (397 XMax - 328 SMax = 69 lbs.). That said, unless you need a higher top end speed, LED headlights, more storage capacity, and maybe a bigger seat, the SMax can get it done for roughly $2K less and still push 75+ MPH.

Since the XMax and Vespa GTS are the only 300cc range scooters available in the U.S. right now consumers don't have a wide selection to choose from. That said the Forza 300 and Vespa are both made in Italy from what I understand.

Granted the current sales are not exactly stellar and for manufacturers to look into the "Crystal Ball" and see what the market potential is can be like throwing dice on a crap table at the Casino.

I believe that it's pretty close to 400lbs although one rider in Australia runs with about 10% more (inc. pillion + luggage) and says that it's fine for the occasional trip. However, he only expects to see 70mph with that setup. These 300cc scoots are, after all, small engined bikes and, in my opinion, not suited for heavy work. They're great for one up touring and the performance is more than adequate. I manged two great rides over the weekend on dry, salt free, roads and the bike just gets better and better.

You need not worry about valve adjustment. Mine still had the original shims after 40,000 km.
Then those shims are utterly easy to remove/check for thickness/replace if needed : just find
approximate TDCC (cam key facing UP), slide rockers sideways, and there they are jumping in your
face.

Clearances are : .006" intakes/.009" exhausts (2014 model, same motor imo).

Oh yes. . .I did fail to mention the Kymco and Sym products.

The dealerships that do carry them in my region are far and few between. And they usually have a somewhat less than robust inventory to select from. Also there's always that question of "But can I get parts for it without waiting too long?".

I've heard good things about the X-Town 300 and Like 150i. The price on the X-Town is hard to beat.

TBH I like the Vespa and Yamaha offerings right now that are available in the 300cc market. . .Vespa being pricier. Honda sort of leaves me no choice due to no product offering. If I get a mind to next year and Honda doesn't send the Forza 300 to North America I may well get the XMax. Time will tell. In the mean time I'm saving up. . .one penny at a time.

I ve had citycom 300i and it was the worst peace of crap ever once stuff started going wrong. The engine is well made and the panels but under all that is the cheapest stuff they can get away with. Eg all switches such as the starter button are 2 bucks peace of china crap. Wiring harness is made with the thinnest wire they can get away with. if you ever have to replace your brake seals good luck SYM will only sell your the full brake . If you want to drop 5 grand find a new old stock forza or any other brand of scooter but SYM. If your sym works find and you ve not had issues cool. Not being able to get parts or get anyone to work on it meant it's peace of trash. I understand other have a better experience then me . I would rather find a 30 year old scooter from japan because at least they still will work .

I can attest to SYM- they make great handling, fun rides. My old HD200 felt part scooter/part motorcycle due to its torque and 16 in wheels front and back. Its was not the best quality though, under the plastics are cheap parts and the worse was having a metal gas cap and plastic grooves on the threads. Numerous complaints about worn out gas grooves on the forums as well as flooding, I bought it knowing that because it was simply a brilliant ride.
I think SYM sends it 2nd tier stuff to America and Canada. The HD200 in its fuel injected form has not been made avaiable to us for years and give us the carbed one.
I think the above post is right, pay up for a Japanese scooter the savings your SYM dealer can give is not worth the non exist resale value and hassle of parts and repair.

Is the fuel guage accurate now?

Not absolutely sure although this morning the "range" indicator told me that I only had 6 miles to go (one bar showing on the gauge) and when I re-fuelled it took 8.12L so there were approximately 3.4L still in the tank. The manual states that one bar means that you have 2.14L left.

I suspect that the 6 mile figure was based on my quick run to the garage as I recall that it was showing higher than this before I put the bike away last time. Alternatively, I didn't quite fill the tank to the brim this morning.

Conclusion - happy to rely on the Range indicator knowing that I probably have a good 50 miles after it hits zero.

Could anyone confirm if there is a reserve fuel switch like bikes in the past or have these now been done away with?

Not sure if they will ever again make a 300 with as low as seat height as the 1st Forza. The trend is not, I am borderline riding the newer ones my inseam is 30 in. Its the saddle width that matters a lot, I have ridden GSXRs, CBR600 and ZX6r just fine.

The R6 is a problem, at 33 inch seat it be careful!!

I'm 5'11 with a 30 inch inner leg. Before I ordered mine I had a good sit on the one in the showroom and it seamed perfect to me (height wise). I guess I'll have to wait until i've ridden it for a while to make a final judgement.

No switch.

You have a fuel gauge and it flashes when you reach reserve.

There is also an accurate Range readout so you should never have a problem.
