Did you just unplug the stock relay and plug the new one in or was there soldering and re-wiring involved?

Replacing a relay? No, replacing a relay is a fine idea.

All a relay does is trigger another circuit when it's powered. The fancy ones (like Fritz mentioned) can also beep or buzz when powered too.

My wife's Buddy 125 has a buzzer relay for the blinker, I've strongly considered stealing her blinker relay and putting it in my PCX. :lol:

Just get a piezo and scotch lock it to the indicator wiring. There's no need to replace the relays nor indicator module.

Just get in the habit of clicking the Cancel every now and then "like a nervous habit". It is always good to keep your vision moving all around you occasionally glancing at your instrument panel.
Also learn to ride like the "cagers" (motorists) are out to get you.
