One other thing guys... if I were to run an in-line fuse for the heated gear cable, what size fuse do you recommend?

The cable that comes with the heated clothing has a fuse in it. Just use what you get. I like the Venture heat liners so you can use them under whatever gear you already have.

Excellent! Thanks for the advice, I really had no idea the battery would be powerful enough for heated gear.

the PCX alternator peak output is 318 watts. it should be powerful enough for a heated jacket if you are riding mostly at speed with few traffic lights, etc. my problem is that it is very urban with lots of traffic lights and slow speed filtering.

Yeah, Hail... I was reading your posts earlier about your traffic. My commute's only 20-25 minutes, and I've only taken my PCX to work in late summer / early fall so far. Beyond that, I want heated gear really for weekend rides, even if just for an hour. Very happy it sounds like I should be able to run 50-100 watts fairly confidently, with some extra for a phone or GPS unit if needed. I'm also thinking of putting a voltmeter on to see if I'm draining the battery too much.

This is assuming that monitoring volts will tell me if I'm draining the battery, versus needing to know amps. I do not grok electricity... ;)

my use is unusual and most wont need to resort to using an auxiliary battery. it is working really well for me so far for an update!

all the guys around here are using the warm and safe brand heated liners with the wireless remote heat troller. they are a bit more expensive than some brands but they are great quality and hold up to a lot of wear.

whatever brand you go with everybody I have known to get heated gear has been of the same opinion: damn, I cant believe I didn't get it sooner!

How do you know this? And does it have overcurrent protection?
Is it the same for the 125 and the 150?

An amp gauge gives an instantaneous indication of whether you are charging or draining the battery. But they are harder to hook up. A voltage gauge will tell you what you need to know and shows the battery state over time. If it starts showing below 12.4v when the engine is running, the charging system is not keeping up.

But you won't have any trouble during steady riding to take 100 Watts out.

You might want to upgrade your battery...
I've been using a Ballistic Battery 12 Cell and it is just awesome, was using it on my gy6 ruckus(which sucked the life out of normal batteries)
and have been using it on the PCX for awhile now, can't say enough good things about it(except price)...

Whoa, yeah - pricey... Dash, does it fit in the same compartment as the stock PCX battery? What's been the difference you've noticed, just not running down as quickly as the stock? I know it's still a 12V, but does it push through more amps?

Again, I'm a total battery novice here... thanks!

It is only slightly bigger it should fit in the stock location( I don't have a stock location :lol: ).
They also make a 8 cell which would surely fit...
I only had to charge it one time, when my stator(alternator) died on the gy6.(ran it home on just battery power) :)

Just another data point for others searching this in the future. I have a PCX with the stock battery. I have had no problems running a Gerbings jacket and gloves. I only do this on rides where I'm cruising, and I've never tried it out in a ton of stop and go traffic, but it works just fine for me. The only other non-stock power I'm pulling is USB output to a GPS. So, no worries here.

Since I'm here again... this battery is still freakin awesome, and still have not charged it a year+ later,
and most of my riding is short and infrequent( not good for batteries). 8)

Good to know! I was having an issue with my stock battery - dealer determined it was bad, as it would deplete in 4 days on non-use. New one is holding up fine, and as we get into colder months in the NE, I'm getting ready to suit up in some heated gear!
