That's because all the press attention was at a time when all PCXs
were made in Thailand.
Production elsewhere is a recent thing.
You're never going to see an article along the lines of - "see that model of scooter that's been out for years well some of them are being made elsewhere now" - it just isn't newsworthy.

GatorGreg wrote:Your point is well taken gn2 but a couple of points should probably be made in the interest of full disclosure:
A) I believe the United Kingdom was a partner with the USA in the Manhattan Project to develop an atomic bomb during WWII - so you get partial credit too
B) The United Kingdom was also a member of the USA led coalition during the Iraq War, so again you guys get partial credit again
C) Depending on what you classify as WMD and how you count them, Russia arguably has more - for example according to this source Russia has more nuclear warheads than the USA:
http://www.businessinsider.com/nine-nat ... has-2014-6
A: probably, but we had absolutely no say in their use.
B: and with any luck our lying turd of a prime minister will be tried for war crimes as a result
C: methinks its the US and A

The only real significance (as it seems you have no choice of where your product was made) is any reliabilty differences. Are those still made in Thailand more reliable than those made in Vietnam or vice-versa, or is it just the usual some bikes will have problems, which in itself would not be so bad if Honda and it's dealers really cared and sorted problems rather than as we have seen recently, people being fobbed off (not just the PCX, some Forza 125's have had major problems and the dealers (two off) and Honda are basically giving the customer the run-around - FB Forza 125 page).

Do you have an actual link, sounds interesting.

Huh? It's not a popularity contest. It's not like you get to choose the country that Honda decides to manufacture them in.
I'm just curious as to the number of Thai v. Vietnamese assembled PCXs. I have never seen any sort of official Honda publicity or motorcycle/scooter press mention of the fact that a significant number of PCXs are assembled in Vietnam - I've only seen Honda and the reviewing press mention the Thai assembly. Even though there's a big sticker that says it was made in Vietnam it's as if Honda doesn't want to publicize it - maybe they think there are some Americans who would not want to buy a Vietnamese product? I personally don't care but I will admit to being happy that my Honda car was made in Japan

Don't think Honda publicizes the origin of any product it makes. Bet their view is that a Honda is a Honda, no matter where made. If people want a PCX, I don't imagine the vast majority, if not all, care a whit whether it's made in Thailand or Vietnam. However, if there are people who won't buy a Vietnamese PCX, I don't think they'll be weighing in on your poll!
[BTW, my Japanese-made Subaru has had far fewer recalls than my US-made Subaru, and I was pleased to discover that my new Silver Wing was made in Japan.]

Honda has a comprehensive range of global websites which impart all manner of information to the curious.

On the US website, none of the scooter model pages has country of origin listed any where I could find. That's the kind of publication I was referring to. In fact, the only time I recall Honda making a point of mentioning country of origin in advertising was stating that the Accord was made in the US, in response to one of those "Buy American!" consumer sentiment waves.

Of course they do! It only took me a few seconds to find several examples on Honda's official press page, see examples below. They tend to be very proud in publicizing their global manufacturing prowess - but yet they seem to be strangely silent when it comes to production of the PCX in Vietnam. Hmmm...

Well it's a rather dull topic (I can say that since I'm the OP

) so if folks want to spice it up I have no objection. With that said the vote is currently 8-4 in favor of the Thai assembled PCX

Vietnam built PCX owner here. With a build date of 7/14. And I'm honestly impressed with the quality it shows. # 1 being its BEAUTIFUL paint .
Also, I spent a little time on the Google machine & found this >>>
"Ha Nam, Vietnam, November 10, 2014 - Honda Vietnam Co., Ltd., a Honda motorcycle and automobile sales and production joint venture in Vietnam, today held an inauguration ceremony of the third motorcycle production plant in Ha Nam Province. Vice Prime Minister of The Socialist Republic of Vietnam Hoang Trung Hai and representatives of governmental and local authorities participated in the ceremony.
The third motorcycle production plant is located in an area of 270,000 m2 at Dong Van II Industrial Zone in Ha Nam Province, which is 40 km to the South from Hanoi. This plant has an initial capital investment of about USD 120 million with annual production capacity of 500,000 units.
The third plant is designed to achieve environmental and human friendly target. Accordingly, this plant is built based on the concept of taking full advantage of natural energy resources in the most effective ways. The entire production procedure of the third plant will fully meet the most demanding environmental standards in Vietnam and in the world.
All the most advanced technologies of Honda in motorcycle manufacturing field have been applied in the production system and workshops of the third plant, including: welding workshop, painting workshop, assembling workshop for finished-products. The third plant is expected to become one of the most advanced in technology and efficient plants in the world.
The plant is equipped with modern machinery to produce high quality and environment-friendly products. This plant will be operated under ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environment management standards.
Honda Vietnam has started to produce motorcycle parts in the third plant since March, 2014 with a production capacity of 1,450 units per day.
In the first phase, this plant will manufacture 1,000 motorcycles per day, most of which are scooters.
Since the start of production in 1997, Honda Vietnam’s accumulated motorcycle production has reached more than 15 million units. The estimated market share of Honda Vietnam in 2014 is about 70% up to now*1.
By having the third motorcycle plant gone into mass production, Honda Vietnam will continue enhancing product lineup to not only fulfill the increasingly diversifying of customers needs in Vietnam, but at the same time also push up exports to other countries in the world.
About the 3rd Motorcycle Production Plant

Here in the USA all 2013 PCX's were built in Thailand. No 2014's in the USA. All 2015 PCX's in the USA are built in Vietnam as well as the 2016 models.
