uploader, sorry to read about your fall. Are you feeling any better? Good you had some protective gear on...worth it at times like this, and one never knows when that time is. Why did I write that? I'm spookin' meself geewhizzz Do I recall correctly, that if one Must brake in a turn that one should straighten the bike to an upright position?

qed - Why would you want to do a "decent skiddy?" That's fun, but go get a dirt bike and play offroads. It's cheaper in the long run and safer for you and the bike. I can't even count how many times I've been bucked off my dirt bike, but it's made me a much better street rider as a result.

Uploader - Glad to hear you're alright. My guess is you hit an oil slick, you usually can't see them in the rain.

As for everyone else, braking while turning is considered an advanced maneuver by the MSF because your center of gravity shifts inwards the moment you hit the brake in the turn, causing inexperienced riders to lowside. Braking hard while turning should therefore be avoided unless you have practiced and know how to do it properly. Braking lightly won't throw you, so don't worry too much. I don't brake hard in the corners whenever I can help it -- even with 100000+ of miles of riding (just broke that mileage a few months ago), I still would rather be safe than sliding on my ass.

Your wheels have a gyroscopic effect on the bike, keeping it upright. When you go into a turn, then brake, you suddenly decrease the gyroscopic force keeping you stable and upright. Gravity takes over, and pulls you down. WhiteNoise has it right -- if you HAVE to brake in a corner, you should try to brake more upright, but don't go TOO upright, or you'll highside it.

Generally, unless you're riding outside of your comfort zone, none of this will matter 99.999% of the time. My guess is Uploader got unlucky with a patch of oil. It happens. My only crash on road was similar, caused by ice. It was a matter of wrong-place, wrong time.

Yep, with time you learn to scan the road surface for hazards, to look and plan ahead so that you don't have to brake hard and if so, to do emergency stops giving time for the weight to switch. Oil on wet road is sod's law though... I ordered a new black PCX today but don't want to hijack this thread so will open a new one where I say "hello" properly. Does any body know how to reply to PMs? Can't find the reply button...

Tried to use that one and apparently I need to participate a bid more.

"We are sorry, but you are not authorised to use this feature. You may have just registered here and may need to participate more to be able to use this feature." was the error message.
