I think the phase separation situation can contribute to a white corrosive looking substance on aluminum parts. I notice when I use the Star Tron I don't get that on the underneath part (which is metal) of the gas cap on my old KLR. FWIW as they say. . ..

That is correct,that white powdery residue is the culprit.
