Impressive launch. Now it zips straight up to 7,000 rpm in a split second. And the J.Costa seems very quick and responsive to varying throttle position.

When you look closer and compare the video's with the one's from the previous setup you see that there is almost no difference between them, it's even slower now, not much but I think that's to blame on the weather conditions.
Let's see how the J.Costa will perform with lighter weights, devinely it's running smoother and more consistent on shifting than the Honda vario.

The JCosta weights could be a bit lighter to get you back up from 6,900 rpm to pulling at 7,300 as you were before. Even though it must be quicker 0-40 now it seems that 0-100kmh is about the same. To bad you tube doesn't have a way to show tenths of a second in the time bar.

That didn't show the 0-40 launch which is where the JCosta does have a slight advantage revving straight up to 7,000 instead of 5,800 rpm in the video I posted. And the JCosta also seems to settle down to a slightly lower rpm during light cruise which would be a little better for fuel economy. 40kph was about 4,000 with it versus 4,400 for the previous set up. All in all, probably not worth the money. Just throw some 17gm DrPulley sliders in and a pipe and be done with it.

The biggest advantage with the J.Costa is that it's running smoother and more consistent on shifting than the Honda vario, it need some weight tuning though.

I've put about 20,000 miles on two different J.Costa variators and they are excellent when the right weight pins are used.
In fact, the mix of sliders and rollers I use now on my scooters was developed while trying to match the J.Costa acceleration curve using a conventional OEM variator.


The biggest difference between my results and Mario's (in his initial test) was his brand new contra spring (~300km).
I suspect if you were to retry the slider/roller combo now, with your new lightweight contra, you might see different results?
A new extra stiff contra spring can dramatically impair light weight combinations.
Costa type variators are hot, very fast, but they do not hold up well to extended Interstate running, where they're kept at high gear constantly....I've also worn out two Costa variators.
The bronze bushings are almost impossible to find in the US.

I forgot to mention the maximum use of the pulley range with the J.Costa on the lowest gear, with the Honda vario there is 5mm unused, this must improve the of the line time when I have the right weights sorted out.

This is what I noticed about the launch rpm zipping right up to 7,000 from the new, lower starting gear. It might be possible to drill the back of the JCosta weights to take 1.5gm off of them to get your pulling rpm back up to 7,200.

Loss of 4 kph top speed is not a big deal. 140kph should be more than fast enough.

what was the price of the JCosta vario compared to the stock replacement? Or something from NCY?

I have a lathe so losing some weight on the rollers shoodend be a problem .

At first I bring them back from 15, 75g to 14g, in total they will be 14, 5g lighter for the 14 pieces.
