Two sources. Mike Royko, former Chicago Tribune columnist referred to people from Wisconsin as rustics. I also took it from a line from a Webb Wilder song, "please don't misinterpret my rustic charm." I am a rustic and quite charming.

I am a member of a Michigan gem and mineral rock-hounding club. When not at work or on my scooter, my wife and I spend time in outings in fossil quarries, down in mines, slogging through western US, and in Michigan's Upper Peninsula looking for minerals.
Here are some pictures of Petrified wood from Arizona, some fluorescent minerals under short-wave light, and us 100 feet down in a gypsum mine gathering orange gypsum crystals...
