I love my Tourmaster Sonora 3/4 air jacket. It worked quite well. I wish I had also had so good riding pants on but we were saving up for them. Until that time I had purchased some knee braces, as well as riding shoes and boots. Plus I had motorcycle gloves with the plastic knuckle protection. They worked well too. Only my hips were not protected and they are really bruised.

Seph, You too?! You just put her back together! I think there must be a 'hit' out for the little PCX....probably by those Chinese scooter makers. :-/
On the home front, my wife is scheduled for shoulder surgery at the beginning of October. We went to a specialist yesterday and he cringed when he saw the x-rays. That says a lot. Well, it has to be done, so we will just cross our fingers and pray a lot. As for our bikes, well we will have to determine their fate after this emergency has died down. I am still working with the insurance company on my SUV, which I wrecked 2 days after the bikes. It looks like it is totalled. When it rains, it pours.

First of all Mel make sure your wife gets better
with all these recent crashes makes me question my situation concerning insurance
$9000 or so to cover my vehicles dump truck- pickup-PCX
they will pay for things not covered by my Medical Service plan-cost $1400 annual premiums
and if I'm hurt driving my dump truck Workers Compensation
another $1200 premiums are on the hook
Oh and by the way had a bad tooth repaired today- not covered by anyone except my visa card
$1400
conclusion is don't work or drive and have no teeth
on the other hand must say us living in a small populace country
have it pretty good if you get busted up they will try to fix you as cheaply as possible
with no added costs

One of the reasons for the October date on my wife's surgery is because we don't have enough money to cover the surgery. Therefore the emergency room doctor could only suggest that we work out our finances and then come back to schedule surgery. So we went to a different medical group for their opinion. Emory is a great hospital group. The specialist said,"You have to have surgery if you ever want to use that arm again. Let's schedule the surgery and then worry about the money." We have considered every option we can for money, so we will just have to put it in God's hands. Surgery is set for October 2nd if we can get her pre surgery exams done by then.
As for the bikes, they are in the basement now. I won't even think about them right now, but I have a feeling that my wife will never ride again.....but we will see.

It's a bit like, the morning after a massive drinking session, in a few month time, once this is all history, you will be pondering about riding.

Christ that is really awful for your wife. Here it would have been done as soon as she had been picked off the road and taken to the nearest hospital. Free subsidised by the taxpayer. For anyone
She must be made of stern stuff and suffering. Can't imagine what it is like at night time.

I always hesitate to pass judgement on any country, particularly after just getting rid of the greatest dud of a Prime Minister in the English-speaking world, but America appears to truly believe in survival of the richest, and the rest can fall by the wayside.
Our system in Australia is not perfect, we have a two-tiered system of health care. If you can afford private health care (we just make it, but it costs us $350 per month) you can get immediate treatment, if you can't afford it, there is the public system, no charge whatsoever, immediate treatment for accidents and emergencies (appendicitis, etc) but a waiting list for non-urgent treatments.
I had a knee replacement 3years ago. It was done within three weeks of my decision to have it done and it cost me about $2,000 for incidentals including a $500 initial charge. The actual cost was over $12,000 and my insurance covered that.
Don't get me wrong I find the Yanks I meet to be the most friendly people on earth, but the medical system leaves much to be desired.
Keep your head up Mel and take good care of your wife because if you're like me, no-one else would have you

Cries she, with silent lips,
"Give me your tired, your poor,
your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Soon that golden door closes and Lady Liberty will hang her head. Far too many who have accepted her generosity continued to drain her for more than she could sustain rather than join her in the benefits freedom brings. Mel's wife should have the healthcare any US citizen in need should have for the contributions she's given but its been abused. There's not enough going into the system to keep the torch lit so we look to those who have shouldered the expense since the beginning for more and more but we don't praise them, rather we condemn. Now the have's say to the have not's NO MORE!... close that golden door, we must take care of the ones who have taken care of you.
Yet I know Mel and his wife would still hobble over and hold it open for as long as they could... even in pain. Better man than me

Just got an email from my personnel dept....family plan health coverage will be $22,335 next year here in Ohio.
My son's new baby cost me $535 for three well-baby care visits....he and young wife make too much at taco bell to qualify for med.assistance, if you can imagine. They're living the American Dream in her parents basement.
Seniors have a choice to make every month. Medications or eat. Small kids walking 2 miles to school...since school levy won't pass.
Welfare cut under Clinton...two yrs max lifetime assistance....$115 per month. Live on that.
Factories closing in every city.
Pensions, health ins. a thing of the past.
Republicans getting wealthier....the rest of us are doubling up.
Great country it is...but forgetting to bring along the less fortunate.
The Pope is currently getting flack for being too liberal..."Look after your poor first. Let God do the judging."
He's looking at us and thinking, "What would Jesus do?"
And republicans are looking at him and wondering - " where did he get such liberal ideas?"
Scoot safely folks

and we condemn them... let there be no chance to be anything but poor.
Good news is as long as we have that darn constitution and those silly elections there will always be opportunity for many. The tables are not turning further left, no they are driving hard right. The majority has spoken and soon they will speak again.
"You will always have the poor but you won't always have me" I wonder who said that

Well, despite all of the problems we are having, at least she will get the surgery. I have a problem with the fact that my wife had health insurance until she had to quit her job to make sure I was eating correctly, going to the doctor when I should, etc.....and she had to quit her job in order for me to qualify for the financial assistance I get to help pay for my $8,000 per month leukemia medicine. With her working, we made too much to qualify. That means that she gave up a lot for me, and she got the royal shaft. When she applied for personal insurance every single insurance company turned her down because she took 2 prescription drugs per month, meaning that she had 2 things wrong with her. Two is too many. She tried for a year to sign up for the "Obamacare" but the sign up system kept going down. Now she is on the list to start coverage on November 1st, which is too late for this surgery. America is great, but you are correct when you say it is survival of the richest here now. I am a Republican because I don't believe that we should just open our gates and let the world in without consideration of what they can or are willing to contribute. However, I started working at 11 years old, so I have paid into the system for a long time. Plus I spent 12 years of my life helping others while in the Coast Guard. It seems to me that at some point the system should be giving back. I am still waiting.

Good man! Been working whole life but I'm not waiting. Just filed patent for a new idea, something you and everyone else will choose over existing widget. My business is out of my home and it too is of my own design and one of a kind. Intellectual property rights, niche businesses, stock market or any of a million other endless opportunities are there for the taking in and among free people. If you're going to be a republican be a confident republican. This is the day the Lord have made let us rejoice and be glad it!!!!!!
