Re: Riding in Bangkok (vid)
Speaking of congested cities. . .I heard on the news that government officials in Hanoi, Vietnam are thinking of banning motorcycles and scooters from selected city roads. There are more automobiles competing for space once occupied by people mostly on bicycles and scooters etc. . .. I hope the motorcycle and scooter riders are able to keep their right to ride in that city. As one person who was interviewed noted, in so many words, "not everybody can afford a car and if they introduce the ban then how can people who don't have cars get around?". About half of the population in Vietnam own motorcycles or scooters. You are destroying our image of Bangkok being a congested city with tons of traffic and hard to get around.
I have to say they build good stuff. I've got a Kodak camera made in Vietnam that I bought back around 2010 and have never had a problem with it. My new 2017 PCX was also made in Vietnam and the workmanship IMHO is outstanding. The Vietnamese know bikes and scooters and I hope they succeed in their quest to not be banned from riding on Hanoi streets.

Re: Riding in Bangkok (vid)
I spent some time in the Phuket area back in 1995
Back then it seemed almost everyone drove a Honda 100 cc with manual gears, but it appears from the video that scooters are more common now.
Is this correct, or do more people still drive small motorbikes as opposed to scooters?

Scooters are taking over but small manual shift motorbikes will stay as theyre a little cheaper than scoots..xixon wrote:I spent some time in the Phuket area back in 1995

Thanks for sharing that. It's a lot less hectic than Taipei or Guangzhou. Lots of scooters there, so car drivers are more likely to look for you.
