I understand roots. I also understand that the offspring can often outperform the parents. We have been enemies and we have been allies. They gave us the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, we gave them Austin Powers (Yeah, Baby!)... I'd call that even.![]()
Laugh it off and go for a scooter ride... on the millions and millions of miles of roads in our vast, beautiful country... which is, incidentally, about 40 times the size of the UK. Not that it's a contest... but if it were, we'd win. Oh, and about 400,000 miles of paved roads in the UK vs over 55,000,000 in the US. This should help you understand their frustration... kinda like the guy who "once had a pretty girlfriend"... you know, a long time ago.
Understand that each time one of them says, "the colonies," it is wishful thinking, not a slight of this great country.

I didn't say we gave them Mike Myers. What we gave the world was a parody with Austin Powers. If someone thought every Englishman was like that character, it would be laughable. Some folks are unable to appreciate tongue-in-cheek.gn2 wrote:Mike Myers was born in Canada to English parents.CaptnJim wrote:we gave them Austin Powers (Yeah, Baby!)

From my perspective, I don't give a rat's rear if anyone calls the United States "the colonies." I was simply putting some humor (no "u") in this thread to diffuse things. Some folks pick at a scab, some know when to let it alone. And some aren't happy unless they are picking at it.
Doesn't bother me a bit.![]()
Jim (my Irish Mother didn't name me with two consonants and a number)
It was all in good fun. Actually I laughed quite a bit at the repetition of the word, "colonies". That was funny.Alibally wrote:It's all very character building isn't it.
