Saw this in my coffee village this morning.
I loved this thing. Mine was green. 289 engine. 7 Massachusetts winters when I bought it....pretty much everything worked great, but rear wheel wells rusted into the trunk....holes covered by several A&P bags.
Commuted every day through the winter with the top down from Springfield, Mass, to Amherst on the highway. Light snow goes right over the top at speed....heater blows a treat with top down!
Scooters bring me almost as big a smile as that convertible did every day.
Cruising in Vermont one day when a highway patrolman pulled me over. He just wanted to talk about the engine!







Fish

That was back in the day when they didn't rust proof cars. I had my Mustangs rustproofed by a company that specialized in it. I remember the stuff oozing out on really hot summer days...but the car never rusted....none of them, and I have had a bunch of Mustangs in my lifetime. It was like a tar coating, but it stuck tight and didn't chip.

Top down in the Winter in MA?

You really did milk the fun out of it. Remember the early ones with the 260 ci V8?

That Mustang was a fun machine . . . as was the Camaro and Firebird. Now no more Pontiac. No more Oldsmobile. No more Mercury. No more Plymouth. No more AMC . . . what the hey???

I remember Studebakers, Henry J's, Ramblers, Packards, and Willy's still road worthy and commonly rambling on when I was a kid in the 50's and 60's.

Holy mackerel was my first reaction as well . . . tons of noble efforts to get the auto industry up and running in the U.S. as far back as the late 1800's. Wow!!!

Three of my other favorites from the past, other than the Mustang (and I did get a chance to drive some nice ones but never owned one), the VW Beetle (original air cooled . . . owned a used '69 once), the VW Micro Bus (only got to drive a camper version a few times), and the MGB. I could go on but these were affordable.
