Switched power for GPS

Hello everyone,

I want to run power to a switched 12v source. The fuse box near the battery seems like the most obvious, but am I going to have to remove a ton of plastic to get a wire from the handlebars to back there?

Any other locations to get switched power from? The 12v socket in the glovebox seems like a good choice tho low power, but I need to figure out how to get behind the glovebox.

I got to the power outlet by taking off the windshield and then the windshield cover so that top of the bike was open, then spliced on to the positive side of the power connector. If You are adding LED lights in the front, you don’t even need a relay.

Welcome aboard our forums omniphil! :P

I see in your signature that you own the new 2021 Honda ADV 150. Sweet! Enjoying it?

At present we don't have a forum set up for your newbie scoot...but There's hope!
I've put in the suggestion to our forums owner, maddiedog. So now we wait a bit to See what happens.
If and when that occurs, I will move this, your question over to the New ADV 150 tech board.

In return I ask that you please add your location to your profile. That info will help us to help you now and in the future. See below my post for simple instructions to complete yours.

Hang in there! I think we have a shot at a new ADV 150 forum 8)

Thanks for the solution to go in through the top under the windshield, I will give that a whirl. I am trying to get the power to run a GPS.

I figure the ADV 150 is pretty much the same bike as the PCX 150 with some different plastics, so I'm not sure how much a new forum would be needed.
I am enjoying riding it around, Limiter kicks in at 68 mph on the highway with a little bit of a down hill. I have a NCY variator and weights coming so hopefully I can get it past 70. I'd like to be able to cruise at 65 on flat ground without going wide open throttle continuously but i'm not sure how realistic that is.
My first scooter was a Genuine Blur SS220i, I had just lighter variator weights in it and I could hit 75mph with a little luck, but sitting at wide open throttle for 15 minutes caused me to snap the CVT belt. So i'd like to avoid that on the Honda of course.

I wonder how many of you have done wide open throttle on the PCX for extended periods of time and were there any issues?

Never pushed my PCX very hard since I've owned it, but my old CB350 with a redline of 10500 would run for hours flat out over some long stretches of open road
through the interior of BC, the only throttle twisting I did was to back off when it was time to slow down.
The bike would get kind of hot being air cooled in the heat of the summer and every once in while got of and spit on the valve covers and watch it sizzle.
The cam ran in aluminium bushings instead of bearings, but every thing held together.
With today's oils and being liquid cooled your new bike should be OK, can't say anything about the final drive, had a chain instead of a belt.
The reason I bought the PCX was a buddy showed up on my doorstep with his and after 35 years of not owning a bike it was just the ticket. He drove his just like
I drove my CB350 without an issue.

I was able to get some of the top plastics off, broke a few clips but nothing that shows. Those plastics are really tricky, there was always 1 or 2 screws that were hiding under another piece of plastic that had to come off first, definitely a jigsaw puzzle. The GPS power wire is now successfully routed back to the fuse box and I jumped it into the 2 amp ACC fuse which I assume is for the 12v socket in the glove box that i don't use.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Side Note: I just found out that the ADV 150 uses a stiffer clutch spring and 20g roller weights, so not everything is quite the same as I originally thought. I have 13g rollers on order based on assuming it was the same setup as the PCX 150. I'll have to get some 17g rollers now.
If anyone is near New Hampshire and wants some 13g NCY rollers just let me know.

It also seems like the engine tuning might be slightly different (Or possibly due to airbox design differences) as the HP and Torque appear slightly different.
ADV 150 = 14.4 HP / 10.18 TQ
PCX 150 = 14.6 HP / 9.74 TQ

Live and learn as you go.
"That's Life" (Dean Kay and Kelly Gordon) --> pick your singer :D

omniphil, You're finding differences after all. Enough for an added forum?

It's about Being ahead of the game:
Adding the ADV 150 to our forums would be for you and for anyone else who owns one.
We wait to hear what maddiedog wants to do.

Happy Sunday! It's Not raining here. Yeh! Or is that, Yet?

I have a feeling it would be awfully lonely in an ADV 150 forum, lol... :)
Not sure there would be that much traffic.

Yesterday i ran WOT for about 5 hours. 2 trips of about 2 1/2 hours.

I didn't realize long runs were a risk for the belt. Is that something I should avoid?

Yes.

Believing that long runs are a risk for the belt (for clarity)

No. It’ll be fine.
