gear oil
about a year ago i bought a 2012 pcx and with the coming season i want to change the oils, the previous owner used 10w40 oil for the engine and 80w90 for the gearbox (see the picture), should i change it for another or use the same oil

Re: gear oil
How many kilometres have you done on the previous owners' oil? How do you know what oils he used? You go to the same place he changed oils and they have the records?

Re: gear oil
I asked him what oils he used and he showed me the ones in the picture, in addition I have the service book, the oil was changed in May 2020, and I drove about 3 thousand kilometers on it

Re: gear oil
The question is whether this oil is suitable for this transmission or not

Re: gear oil
I thought the manual said to use the same oil for both (no special gear oil needed for the small final drive chamber as it has an easy life and oil comes out looking like it went in - after 2 years). Most of us use the same oil and never have issues - fully synth 10w30 / 10w40 seems fine.

Re: gear oil
I've used a 75w-90 full synt specific for gears despite of the Honda manual recommendations and it's very smooth, now I am at 2K kilometers with it

Re: gear oil
You can use whatever you want in the back end of this bike. There’s no combustion to dirty it up, no hi temp, and you’re putting all of 13.5 hp through the gears. I used mobile 1, and after a year it comes out looking exactly like it did when it went in.

Re: gear oil
Exactly, same with the Catrol Power 1 racing fully synth - you would not know it's been used. The manual states use the same engine oil for the final drive. It only matters for high end motorcycles where the special oil shares lots in common with normal 10w40 but has added ingredients for the purpose - none of which matters here.

Re: gear oil
My PCX wasn't accelerating worth beans. Then I added castor oil into the final drive. Problem fixed.
