I find the Givi Monolock not very handy for everyday errands... weird shape and the lock is funky to say the least.
Found a milk carton that I could cut some tabs in the front that would clip into the mounting plate... also cut a rectangular hole for the "tab", keeps it from sliding around.
A couple of 18" bungee cords (red and black match my bike nicely!) http://amzn.to/13mMkmH Comes off easily and can be used as a basket in the store.
Works like a charm! Add other size cords to taste for holding down stuff, but not sure it's necessary- unless your roads are particularly bumpy!

Yep I do something similar, adding a crate to my rack but rarely need it.

My in-laws use milk crates on their Vespas too. The functionality is great, but I don't like the way they look.

I had a bike basket bunged on the back rack. looked better than a milk crate and speaking of, used it mostly to get milk from the local farmer. I imagine wind resistance would be the same (not good) milk crate or bike basket. so, removed the basket and waiting for a mounting plate that I just ordered to install GIVI top case. Ya gotta think of your image! milk crate carrier... I say that tongue in cheek as I always wear a lime green fluorescent T shirt / sweatshirt while riding. Not a fashion statement but I know it helps with the visibility. Drivers do that little head jerk (like oh, I did not see her sitting there... where did she come from??!!). When I park the bike, I put the T shirt over the windshield so drivers don't run over my bike while parking. Sounds a bit of obsessive, doesn't it??!! ScooterKim

ahh... mind in the gutter. Probably too much info here, but, I know I should wear more (for safety sake). I usually wear sneakers, shorts, T top, and the green shirt. And my helmet, sunglasses, and gloves. What's the point of not showing off my going to the Y everyday??!! ScooterKim

Really don't think wind resistance is an issue, it's mostly open, and I'm sitting in front of it! OK, it doesn't look great, but it's only on when I go shopping!

You've raised the thorny issue of clothing and safety.....tbh our scooters arent a huge amount faster than a pedal bike around town so why not wear what's convenient. Otherwise your missing the point of a scooter

I figure somewhere along the posts, I will be chastised for not wearing boots, riding armour, and leather jacket. and, I do think about the safety issue (or lack there-of on my part) when I am going 50+ mph. I always wear a helmet. I had a Kymco 250 before my Honda. and, before that I learned to ride on a Buddy 150 Pamplona. Anyway, the Kymco was very unbalanced. reviews even stated that the steering was "wooden". I put it down twice... once in the garage and once on the road, turning a corner. I got lucky on the road as I was wearing jeans, sweatshirt, and gloves. And helmet, that goes without saying. I got banged up and the bike got scuffed up. It took 3 people to put the bike back up. I got back on it, rode it home, rode it again once more and said, that's it. Took quite a loss $$ but left with my life. Even the hubby said I was smart to trade the bike in for the Honda. would have been smarter to never have gotten the Kymco, but, oh well, .... ScooterKim

I think this forum is relatively easy-going about gear. It's no one's business but your own what you wear. I often wear a t-shirt and shorts and a helmet when riding around town, it's a trade-off between convenience and safety. For the long trips though (200+ miles), I always suit up completely.

In Scotland or England they dont know what a hot day is so cant imagine riding without a jacket. If it gets close or over 100 here Im like Dave and ride in T shirt/shorts for short trips. I saw one guy here just riding in Speedos (we call them budgie smugglers!) on a hot day last summer.
