So, I changed my oil myself this time for spring and decided to youtube it to make sure I didn't miss anything and ended up watching Jackwagon on the Revzilla instructions so didn't get all of the old oil drained out. I said to myself "oh no It must me using oil and I didn't realize it!" It wasn't using oil as I check it fairly regularly. So, under the impression that I had gotten all the oil that was left in there out, I refilled according the official oil capacity and of course over filled it. Then I ran it and of course it ran horribly. I sorted it all out, figured out the stupid video that should be taken down left out the drain plug step was wrong and now have the oil at the proper level. Unfortunately I am now consistently burning oil somehow. Never burned any before this last change. Any insight as to what could be wrong? Will it eventually stop? Is there something else to check? How much did you overfill it?

I cant imagine how just changing oil would cause the bike to burn oil. Is it smoking a lot? What weight oil are you using?

Doesn't make sense to me either. Using Honda GN4 in either 10-30 or 10-40, I don't recall which.

How many miles do you have on the bike?

10,000 and wasn't using any oil before and no smoke coming out of the exhaust. Was thinking maybe I bugger'd up the filter or something when I cleaned and re-installed but that shouldn't do it either.

Are you using a measuring cup to refill the engine?

I don't us a measuring cup I put a quart and a half in then run it, then add then run it then add until I get the level correct on the dipstick.

Not sure how much it's burning thousand miles yet. I've put 2 tanks of gas through'er and had to add oil after the second tank.

I'll just keep running it and checking it frequently til the next oil change and see how it ends up. I'm guessing when I overfilled then ran it oil went into places it shouldn't have.

1.5 QUARTS????? WHAT!!! It takes 800ML which is less than 1 quart. You are waaaay over filling it. Get a service manual.

Do yourself a favor and buy a 1000ml measuring up. Drain the bike completely. Measure EXACTLY 800ml and put it in. Wonder if you permanently damaged your engine. Could have damaged bearings, bent rod, all bad stuff.

Correction, I only put 1 quart in the scooter, my moto took the quart and a half. The problem with the scooter is there was likely still a half a quart of oil in there because I didn't pull the drain plug because the partzilla video didn't mention it. So when I filled it up with a quart it probably had a half quart in it still so was over filled.
It is absolutely running as well as it always has now. Just a lot of white smoke that smells like burning oil coming out.

White smoke usually means blown head gasket. Shes going to have to be rebuilt. Keep an eye on your coolant level.

White smoke IS normally an indication of a coolant leak. Light-to-dark gray smoke normally means oil.
Before jumping to any conclusions... change the oil again, per a DIY video of your choice and refill to the proper levels.
Whether it clears up or not, you've wasted 1 qt of oil and some effort... nothing more.
If it ran properly before the oil change, and nothing else was done to the bike fter the oil change... chances are something was over-looked during the oil change.
