Newbie in Yokohama Japan

Taking the chance to introduce myself. I moved to Yokohama for my job. Getting to work was a pain, the busses here are too small and crowded for me so I bought a 50cc Honda Zoomer. The upside was I have found my Zoomer to be practical for my 10k commute and to take advantage of cheap parking near my office. The downside was it was no fun at all. E.g. I get left behind at lights and slight inclines by moms riding their kids to school on the the very popular electric bicycles. I guess you could say it was a sublime to rediculous scenario because back in the Uk I own a BMW K1200RS. Anyway last night I bit the bullet and on Wednesday next will be taking delivery of a white PCX 125. Thanks to this forum I was finally able after long and sometimes tedious research often in Japanese which is all foreign to me, to make my choice of transportation and now going forward I hope to make some mates and pass on some of my hard earned Japanese and biking experience. Be good and ride safe. Regards and belated Happy New Year from Bobsanthebuilder

Happy new year back!

Hope you like it! Don't know how long you will be there, but there is some interesting stuff to be gained if you like to absorb the culture- there is a lot to be had. I spent a little time in Kansai Science City, or Keihanna Science City, and found the experience absolutely fascinating. Yea, busses are small, the trains are PACKED, and the entire experience was like stepping on to another planet. I loved it! Loved the train stations; at the time (2001), not a word of english for us Gaijins, so getting around was an experience! Lost in Translation, as it were.

Hope you enjoy the scoot; it can be a blessing for transport. Beats time in long, packed queues!

thanks for the greeting and reply. Been here for 18 months already and have the possibility of 3 or 4 years more (then its time to put me big feet up) and yes I do like Japan, very much in fact. What impresses me most I think is the honesty. Eg loose your wallet and it will be returned. Culturally, its a different world but a good one never the less. The rest of the world can learn a thing or two but make no mistake they can be tough to deal but without the confrontation. Its all about self control I guess. If they say yes they mean they heard you but it does not mean they agree what you said. Hope the PCX ticks all my boxes, rather think that it will. I will keep posting. For now Best Regards

Seams like I posted this in the wrong section, hope admin can move my thread to PCX. Anyway if not I will start a new thread in the right place. I took delivery last night and had a 20 km ride out. Two observations not criticisims yet. The seating arrangement leaves a lot to be desired, the bump and contour of the seat does throw you forward of where you want to be. Would not like a 100km ride out. The centre module does restrict where your feet can be placed. Otherwise so far so good the PCX is a dream machine and like most others I`m happy with it and glad I chose it. To be continued.
