speedometer and odometer stopped working.

My speedometer and odometer stopped working and not sure what the fault might be. The indicater and headlight lights still work so there is power going to the dash so would this rule out a blown fuse? I am not very mechanical so any advice gratefully received

There is a speed sensor at the rear wheel behind a plastic cover beside the brake adjusting nut. Have a look at this first invade it's damaged / disconnected.

Thanks, will check it tonight and report back.

Where exactly is the speed sensor? I had a quick look around the rear brake adjuster but couldn't see anything amiss.
BTW I have attached a photo of the dash. The digital screen is completely blank so can't even tell how much fuel is in the tank.

If the digital bit isn't working the dash cluster might be faulty. Is it still under warranty?

No warranty :-(
The speedo does not respond either so really hoping it is not something as expensive as a new dash but might be an excuse to get the fully digital kitaco one.

Check the dash is plugged in properly. If there's any work been done around that area it might have been dislodged. A long shot but worth a look. I would look at the fuses as well. You never know.

Have now checked all cables and connectors to the dash and there is nothing loose and also checked the fuses.
Any other ideas ?

If you can't even tell how much fuel then it sounds like the dash cluster has problems. If you can do the work yourself you may have to take the bike apart and check the connections to the back of the cluster. Try to think of what is common to all of the things not working.

I have already removed front panels to check the cables to the dash and none are loose so hoping it is something other than the dashboard.
Is it possible to test whether it is the dashboard or not?

You say no warranty - is that because of age of the bike or not completing all Honda service intervals?

Not completing the service intervals. I bought it 2nd hand and the previous owner only had it first service but nothing since although the bike is only just over a year old ( registered Jan 13 )

In the UK, the sale of goods act may cover this - something like that should not fail so drastically due to not having every service done.

If it's only a year old then take it in and ask the dealer. What's to lose?

I have a thought about your problem. Will the bike start and run normal? When you go to start it does the speedo needle go up to 100mph and back? Does the amber engine light come on then go out like normal to let you know you can start it now? Does the engine light stay off or does it flash a code or stay on letting you know you have a problem?

Everything works as normal apart from no digital display and no movement at all on the speedo.
My take it to my local dealer during the week and see whether I can blag a repair under warranty if I cant get it resolved in the meantime.

I would think all is ok with the speed sensor since you do not have the amber light staying on. I would try having the key on and push pull and move wiring on the speedo cluster. Watch for your fuel gauge to come on or flicker. You could also have the bike running on the center stand with help and rev it up as you move the wiring around and watch the speedo.
