Low rumble sound when opening throttle

Hello Maddiedog and Mel46.

Enjoy reading your posts greatly. New PCX owner here and I have a straightforward question as a scooter newbie. I realize this is not a "performance" bike by any means, but it's got great torque and initial acceleration which I love. One question though. When opening the throttle either starting from a stopped position, or merely accelerating a bit once already at a good speed, the engine or exhaust makes an extremely low and consistent rumble sound. Is this the normal sound of the PCX? It's almost a governed sound as if the bike is being held back from insufficient fuel injection or air. Is this sound normal then, or perhaps it's just me, as I would think an open throttle would exhibit a higher frequency sound than this.

Thanks so much!

I will take a stab at answering this ...

Is it a bit of the "throaty" sound? Mine does the same, and I like it. It seemed to increase when I replaced the breather with an aftermarket canister type one. I would rather have a rumbling sound that a higher pitched whining one. :)

By the way, welcome to the forums.

I can't say if that is normal or not. Ours is extremely quiet when we start it, though I do hear a low rumble. Still, since I have a Burgman 400, it is hard to hear the PCX once the Burgman is started.

Thanks for the responses.

"Throaty" rumble sound is indeed the best descriptor. Glad to hear it is not uncommon.
