So i'm coming up for my 5k service, nearly 4800 on at the mo but I'm planning a trip soon thats going to add 400 odds so the question is whether to get the service in now or after the trip....I mean does it have to be between 4900 and 5100 or something ?

don't worry about it, as long as it has enough oil your PCX will probably be fine for another 5000 miles

your saying i should skip the 5000mile service ?, i'm assuming this will invalidate the 2 year warranty which is up next january anyway.

Maintenance intervals here for reference: http://hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=323

You shouldn't skip it (although the scooter would probably be okay if you did), but fudging it a bit will be fine. Get the oil changed after you get back. They recommend you change the spark plug, but you don't have to unless it fails.

if you skip it and your engine explodes, then yes I'd assume they'd point at the little book and ask where the Honda stamp for the 5K service is :D
