How do you know when your MOT is due? My PCX is from 2011 has a FSH up to 7500 miles (mileage now at just over 10,000) and has never been in for an MOT .. should it have?!!

It's the UK government ministry of transport test for road vehicles. You need one every year after the vehicles are 3 years old. It's basically a safety and emissions test.

Woops! thanks for the link! Just noticed I forgot to get a new tax disc also

On the MOT section it says "No details held by DVLA" I'm assuming that'll be because its never been in for an MOT, I would have expected it to say "MOT due by 04/04/14" or similar..

There are no tax discs anymore - it's all held electronically against your reg plate (unless Scotland has their own law?)

It's quite a handy link. We use it at work to check if a car is taxed before roadtesting it. We have to use tradeplates otherwise. You can't tell no with no tax discs.

Well, the ministry of transport disappeared eons ago.

Whatever I'll say Will be incorrect, and subjec to the usual, but it's a general roadworthy test (yes I know that isn't the case legally) that allows you to buy a road fund licence (yes I know that is hugely incorrect too). After all this you can pop your twickle scooter on the Queens highway (yes I know that isn't technically correct any more). Get any of these things incorrect and you are subject to a fine. Automatically

Is it likely to fail with this exhaust? (black plastic part now removed)

Only if it fails emissions or the rust is so bad the metal supports are weak or metal can be pushed in. I wonder how people's PCX's fare 3 yr's in for MOT passes?

I was shocked to see my exhaust was pretty rusty after riding through the winter (2012 model 10,000 miles) but removing it, rubbing it down with coarse grit and spraying it, it looks as good as new. You might want to try this if you are worried about the MOT.

Give the bike a good clean and check the basic things yourself such as the lights and tyres. There's no point it failing on a brake bulb or something trivial like that.

Thanks tomtic..no need, passed the MOT today!
I plan on getting an angle grinder and removing those buckled brackets, then giving it a good clean and spraying black with heat proof Hammerite, would have got a new exhaust cover but the brackets are buckled to hell, god knows how they got like that simply from blowing over..

Just found out today, when buying a second hand bike/car the tax no longer transfers with the vehicle i.e. you have to get your own tax for it. DOH!

You should have found out about the tax, or lack of, as part of the registration document xfer which the dealer/seller should have part completed when selling the bike.
