honda motorcycle valve question

A question for our veteran bike/scooter owners:
A 2013 CB500R, F & X have a valve check/adjustment scheduled after the first 600 miles.
The 21014 & 2015 versions of these bikes have the first valve check at 16,000 miles.
These bikes use the shims.
What gives...how can this be? What changed? Sure seems to be the same engine...looking at the service manual.
(And yes, there is a reason why I don't ask the youngsters over on the 500 forum this question)

My best guess would be that after checking a few hundred thousand at 600 miles and finding no significant valve clearance change, they decided they were wasting their time and extended the service interval?
I'm not personally familiar with that series....
was it a relatively new design in 2013?
if so, the early 600 mile valve check might have been a follow-up quality control check, just to insure everything was wearing as planned?

Initially there wasn't a 600 mile check but this was introduced after a number of problems.
There were modifications to the cylinder head and the requirement went away.
There is something in common with the CB500 head issue, the Forza leaky waterpump seals and the substandard PCX centrestand mounts, for ten bonus points, do you know what it is.....?

You bought two of them and couldn't afford the third?
