Reinstalling the coolant clip

that holds the cover for the coolant (under seat). I have the owners manual. It was easy to remove. Then the manual shows 3 steps for reinstalling. 1. It is easy to push the prongs apart. 2. insert clip (easy) 3. lightly press down on center pin to lock the clip. When i try step 3, nothing happens. the center of the clip remains depressed. I tried pressing straight and at an angle.

This is not a big deal because the clip stays in. I could put a piece of tape over it.

In the owners manual there is a 2nd illustration after the "open the prongs" which shows an arrow pointing horizontally. But the prongs seem to be compressed. This seems to be showing how to reset the "lock" but that is not what the wording says. What does this illustration show?

Almost blew a fuse the other day trying to figure out how to get
that clip to reset
used the caveman method
kept tapping the center pin on the pavement until it went to re-load

I would replace it with a push-popper from any honda car dealership for about 20 cents, they use them all over their cars to hold all the assemblies in place.

Hey yak I broke that same trim clip the first time I opened the coolant door on my 2011 PCX!
C'est La Vie. I think they are dumb stupid pieces of plastic anyway, but! they do...do the job.
Anywho, I found a quick video on how "that pesty one" works.
Fret no more....fix and ride :D

:? Did the coolant need topping off?

Couldn't get my clip back on either just haven't bothered having it covered. Does anyone's expansion tank actually get warm?

WhiteNoise, thanks for the video. But i am still not "getting" the motion needed to bring the indented center pin flush with the service of the clip. Is he doing it by pushing with 2 fingertips?

I learned something about editing my posts. I took more than 5 minutes to finish my edit ..... and my time expired. Moderator Dave said that we can edit but only for 5 minutes after posting.

I meant to write "surface" instead of "service" in my last post.

In WhiteNoise's video, where is the guy putting the pressure to get the pin to push back into place? I can't do it with my fingertips. In the illustration on page 66 of the 2013 English-language owners manual there is an arrow pointing to the right but no explanation.

The guy in the video says that these clips cost $5. Not the 20 cents mentioned by forum-member jge64.

yak, as far as inserting the clip, the video guy is holding it and can't demo it going back in.
So he states that the clip just gets pushed back in and that in turn will make the center strip (of the clip) lie flat once again.
Have you tried that? Just inserting it? Maybe your clip is broken? You can always post a pic here of yours if you want us to see it.

In the meantime, I've got another link for you: http://www.boltmotorcyclehardware.com/p ... ivets.html

(Looks like they'll fit) :) What say the rest of you...are these clips the same size as ours?

WhiteNoise, i just went out and tried pushing hard on the clip to see if that would make the center strip pop out (lie flat). I checked on the link you sent. Looks like they would work. The previous link by jge64 has the Honda parts. Bag of 40 for $5 US. Also available at a Honda car parts department (i didn't verify that yet).

I tried getting my fingernails under the edges of the depressed center pin. No luck. Then tried with a screwdriver blade. WhiteNoise, instead of posting a photo, i may pay for you to fly to Phoenix to take a look at this. The livery driver will honk when he his ready to pick you up.

"....Leaving on a Jet Plane" doot-da-doot-do :D
HaHa! Will there be room for me scoot?
Wait! Isn't it Hot, hot, hot there? Can it wait till late fall?
Nooo...needs fixing now!
In NY, I will finally wear mesh gear by next week! There's been too much rain again this year! Damp, and chilly. My back hates this weather!

Sooo...did you sort things out with that pissy pin? (scuzi)
Temp fix: Got a plastic plug lying about of proper size? Push it in.
No? Okay, pour the wine, drink it up...cork the cool(ly) hole! :D Just kidding on the cork. That would absorb. Not good.

Did you end up ordering new clips?
