Dr Pulleys don't work properly on 2013 125

Controversial title, as we all know Dr Pulleys tend to spread your variator wider and increase your overall gearing. They work.

The problem on my 2013 model is that both drive face & OEM variator have an outer edge that is vertical for the last 6mm.

On fitting you will find all is fine up to approx 45mph when variator lockup occurs. The rpm will suddenly change from around 7200 to 6000, a distinct sudden gear change as the belt suddenly pops up to full height in the parallel grooves.

Not only is this unsatisfactory but also means your vee belt is running in a non vee groove, not good for belt life or traction.

So I've taken them off. Hope this saves anyone else from wasting their money as they are quite expensive over here in the UK. :o

Sounds like the evil work of the torque driver. Depending of the weights replaced it can either make it worse or better..usually 10g sliders (8000rpm)on 125 will reduce the rpm drop by maybe 500rpm.

I've had no problems but my bike is a 2011. I was under the impression the pulley faces are the same regardless of year.

I have a 2013 125 and had the exact same thing happen. Felt like it changed up gear at 45 but otherwise still worked. I replaced the belt and it disappeared.

Well if you guys are using drive sheaves with regular sides & no step at the outer edge, as all other variators are I've ever seen, you'll have no problems.

The point is to check if you've got a weird stepped edge like mine they won't work. The earlier models definitely did not have that stepped edge, I know because I now have one!

And yes, they are installed correctly and are 13g which felt about right for a 125.

Ok, here's the pics.

On the second you can see the gap under the rule which is more or less parallel until the upturn about 6mm from the outer edge.

This is the same on both faces.

It could be a wear lip I suppose, but after just 9000 miles? The replacement is smooth all the way out to the edge.

It looks worn to me. I'd like to see a new one.

It does appear well worn.
