Further investigation has revealed variator tried to escape from casing due to retaining nut coming off .it has buggered the casing and worn outside of the variator away drive .not sure why this stopped engine does anyone have any idea,s ie a sensor ?

Had you or others done work on the variator - a reason why it came loose.

Had it 14 months done about 11000 miles when I bought it . I have done 4500 miles on it ,changed oil n air filter never looked at variator until now. Stuck the nut back on finger right and had it running again so at least now no how to fix it . The f@@king nut won't come of when I fit new parts to it coz 3 1/2 miles home at 2:30 am after a hard shift at work pushing a scooter Ain't fun took me nearly 2 hrs got stopped by police spent 20 minutes explaining wot I was doing then breathalyzed to cap my night off .

priced all the parts Honda dealer said it required came to just over £200 so fired it back together there is a little wear on belt drive side of variator and rollers were showing. Wear so I replaced the rollers with new Honda standard rollers and put it back together ,with the casings back on there are no signs of damage and it has made no difference to performance still cruises all day at 60mph with top speed on flat about 62 mph so all in my major breakdown which with labour would have been in excess of £300 at a Honda dealers cost me £12 to fix my self .
