Crankcase breather and DIT servicing

The little sticky-out breather tube should be easy to clean out and is part of the service plan, but looking at the service manual it suggest inspecting and cleaning the feeder pipe to that which involved taking lots of paneling off - has anyone ever checked the feeder pipe or cleaned it (or found it necessary?)

Maybe make it part of a service that you do remove panels for(like the valve-lash).

Can you get a test tube brush back up that tube? If so, a brush soaked in mineral spirits should clean it easily.
