Hi future fellow PCXers, I have my CBT on friday 17th August 2012 as I have been driving into work for the last 6 years at the cost of £40 week and annual costs are around £3600 so not a happy bunny.

Anyways, so I have been on internet, read obviously this site and wondered if there is a good starting point to start looking for a PCX.

I have been on Autotrader and Ebay but not sure of any other areas to look as these two are showing bikes in the region of £1800 + and I cannot spend that much on my first ever bike... or can I / should I?

Please advise.

Welcome aboard.
You should spend however much you are comfortable with spending.
I've seen PCXs second hand for £1400.
Other places to look are Gumtree and MCN classifieds.
Remember that if you are doing big distances the service interval is very short at 2500 miles and you'll need a rear tyre (£40ish) every 5000 miles as well.
Purchase price, insurance and servicing can easily wipe out any fuel saving if you keep your car.
If you sell the car then you will definitely save cash.
The best reason for getting a scooter is the sheer fun of riding the thing and bollix to the economics.

Hello and welcome to this forum.

You will save on petrol cost, but as others have said you need to factor in the insurance and tax as well, servicing as mentioned above unless you can do it yourself. If you have an urban commute your commute time will get quicker as you get used to filtering (with care and due dilingence to others around you) having two wheels can be fun though

According to the Honda workshop manual the 2.5k is inspection only other than cleaning the crankcase breather

At 5k the oil and spark plug should be changed

Oil strainer cleaned every 7.5k

Air cleaner at 10k

Drive belt at 15k

Hardly strenuous stuff

Not strenuous, but checking the valve clearances isn't as straightforward as it could be and according to Honda should be done every 2500 miles.
Of course you being from Yorkshire will know better than the combined wisdom of Honda Motor Co Ltd.

Your posts a bit unclear, what would I know better than Honda?

I plan on keeping my car for the weekends but that fact that I wont be spending £40 a week on fuel is a saving by itself.

How much does it cost to fill a 125 model and what sort of mileage would I get out of that, I will be mostly using dual carriageways (40mph max speed allowed) with some limited local riding totalling a daily 20mile run to work and back.

Your usage would probably return between 100 and 115 miles per gallon.
The PCX tank holds about five and a half litres.

I live in Yorkshire but thats not where Im from....

I'm getting very nearly 130mpg which is amazing. I have to admit I don't thrash about but I do a country A-Road commute from the coast to Gatwick Airport...a round trip of 58 miles.

Ok I see you live in Yorkshire so a bit far

Fuel economy on mine seems to have leveled out at about 112 - 115 mpg, my commute one way is about 3.5 miles. I have never spent much more than £6 on a fill up from Tescos

Same for me. 60 mile A /B road round trip. Keeping to 50 but the (very) occasional 60/70 to avoid holding up the traffic and get 130ish with an average of 126

Glad someone is getting the same as I was starting to feel like a tall story teller
