How often does your battery go flat?

I've had my PCX a few days now and since my first ride, have been using the engine stop/start feature.

I'd assumed the bike would monitor battery voltage and only engage the system if the battery had sufficient charge to fire the bike up again at the lights.

On the way to work this morning, my bike went to start up and then immediately stalled. It wouldn't restart then and I had to walk the bike to a local garage to get a jump start.

I ran the bike for around 10 minutes which I'm hoping will provide enough charge for me to start it up again in a few hours!

Has this happened to you?

The new facelift model has battery protection, the old one does not.
Mine never ran flat but my usage was mostly out of town.

Battery protection...meaning the system will intelligently shut down the motor or keep the engine running?

Does that mean on shorter journies I need to manually engage the stop/start system?

The '15 models have an up-rated amp/hour battery and 'intelligent' monitoring of battery condition and will disable idle-stop from working should the battery condition (volts) be detected as being too low. Alternatively, just turn off idle-stop as it's of little benefit anyway :)

By battery protection I mean the system which disables idle stop if the battery is getting flat.
If you only do short journeys in town, don't use the idle stop.

I was thinking this today...you get an estimated 5% better gas mileage on a scooter that does around 130mpg anyway. Seems pretty self-indulgent on Honda's part!

Nice on a BMW, but I don't see the need on a scooter.

Yeah, MCN described it as having 'coffee house kudos'...really don't see the point personally.
