So I've added a seventh state to my list of states visited on a 150cc scooter. I think that's something to write home about, but I wrote a blog entry instead:

My wife's relatives live in PA and yet the ride up to there and around the towns there has always depressed me. Don't get me wrong. I do love the countryside. It is the depression of the old towns with their funny names and dirty buildings that take away from that beauty, and the floods that come every year, almost as though nature wants to clean up those old dirty towns but can't. As we drove through the countryside and mountains I often imagined how the indians and the first settlers felt. The beauty is both comforting and frightening at the same time. Then the state government came along to add unending road improvement projects and taxes on everything except the air you breathed, just as the British did prior to our fight for independence. How is it justifiable to tax you based on what you can do for a living...I believe they call it a vocation tax or something similar? Still, all-in-all, it is the people who make your state enjoyable to visit, and your government the reason to move away.

I won't get started on the politics of Pennsylvania, but it is a commonwealth, so it is founded on certain socialistic principles, which affect the way the state is run. I did notice that has is 20 cents cheaper in Maryland, for that we can thank the previous governor.

As for the towns being dirty, Lancaster county isn't so bad for that, and the various species of anabaptist help keep it a charming place to live. Once you get into some of the poorer areas, things change in that regard, but Lancaster is still a pretty place to live.
