In case its flooded, try holding the throttle fully open when starting.

Ok, likely the side stand switch or the kill switch if you have one (we don't get the kill switch here in the UK). Can't think of any other reason for it to suddenly not turn over then be ok. Is the battery fully charged?

You may not have pulled the brake lever in tight enough.

The start system is fairly simple. The main things that will affect starting are the brake levers, the side stand switch or the kill switch. If the bike was on its side stand you may not have moved the stand completely to the body of the bike, which may cause the switch to remain open. The other item is the kill switch, which is a rocker switch on the handlebar. Move it back and forth to make sure it fully engages and disengages. And last, a very important item is the brake lever...either left or right. If you do not hold the brake lever closed while pressing the start switch, nothing will happen. If it does not start by holding one of the levers, try starting the bike using the other brake lever. Both should work, but sometimes one or the other fails. These are your main problem areas when the bike will not even turn over. Check each in turn to see which one is causing the problem.

Intermittent electrical problems are the worst. In the Harley world after the obvious switches you go straight for the battery and then to the grounding points. Corroding main grounds (cables and wires) can cause all manner of strange gremlins.

Sometimes a screw will loosen up somewhere on a connection that can cause an intermittent problem. . .or even at the battery terminals or grounding points as Homie says. On some vehicles starters can get what are called "dead spots" or "flat spots" where they just don't make contact when the starter button is pressed. . .especially if they have had a lot of use. I'm not sure about the PCX. Maybe somebody else can elaborate on the PCX starter. . .

The Honda PCX uses the alternator as a direct drive starter so I don't think there is the worry about the dead spots that some starters end up with after a while. It does have wiring though, and sometimes that can become an unknown. When I purchased my PCX a mouse had decided to take up residence inside of it, and that little creature did some real wiring damage. The shop had to take it apart and replace several of the wiring harnesses. Luckily the harness assemblies are plug and go types, so once the new ones arrived it did not take them long to replace the chewed up parts. This problem is more common than you would think. The bikes come partially assembled, in a big crate. Mice and rats can easily eat their way into a wooden crate and make themselves at home, especially on a slow ship from Thailand.
That doesn't mean that you have that problem, but if you start to have intermittent electrical problems, take some panels off and take a look.

Hey Mel. . .I remember you mentioning that thing about the mice. . .happened to me also on my Suzuki and my KLR. Even in a Ford air cleaner one time. Tons of seeds the little critter piled up in it.

I had the same thing happen with mine a few years ago. I tried pressing the brake lever harder, and lowering and raising the side kickstand a few times. Eventually, after a few minutes, it started okay. It happened three or four times and I never did figure it out. Although in reflecting back on it, I may have changed the battery within a couple of weeks, so maybe the battery was playing out, but I can't say for sure.

Bad fuel, fouled spark plug, clogged air filter,,,,etc. But my money is on the brake lever or the side stand..

Hi,

This sounds amazing as I found it
very much useful and informative to be honest. Also, I have gone through this
post which definitely helped me out a lot as a new member I am looking forward
for more such discussions.

Thanks

I had an issue last week. My son had taken the scooter out just for 15 minutes and when he came back - left the lights on for about 10 minutes - but the scooter would make the cranking noise but would cut out as soon as I left the brake lever or the throttle. This persisted for about an hour of continuous trying and finally I got a battery red light. I was certain the original issue was not battery related as these lights are all LED, however I tried jumping the battery and nothing happened. Then I decided to use a 4 AMP Deltran battery charger to charge the battery. I left the battery charger for about 10 minutes and the Deltran machine stated that battery is fully charged. Viola - after that the scooter started without any issues. I wonder what happened!!!

Next morning I rode the scooter for 120 miles without any issues.

Please share your thoughts as to what could have happened. I hope the battery is fine as someone told me that you should not charge motorcycle batteries with anything over 2 AMPS.
