I can't remember exactly if these old Hondas just shifted manually with no clutch or there was some kind of trick to it.

Fun to watch though. . .. :D

As far as I can remember the had a manual gearbox but an auto clutch. You just stamped on the gear changer on the left?

Yep, I've had a modern Honda Innova with a modernised version of the system. The clutch was linked to the gear pedal. You put it in first and the bike would be stationary at tickover.

Build the revs up and the clutch disengages and the bike moves.

If you press the gear lever part way down when in gear the clutch engages, and acts like a manual bike clutch.

You change gear by using just the pedal that operates the clutch and gear change simultaneously.

I'm no expert but I believe that it is called a centrifugal clutch, semi automatic system.
