I noticed today that my brake lock isn't holding the bike anymore. I suspect I already know the answer, but does that mean that I need to adjust the rear brake? If yes, should I wait until the 600 mile service or go ahead now? Bike's at 100 miles.

Yes, and mine continuously stops working after a while after adjustment so I ignore it. Don't adjust the rear too tight make sure there's still easy play / spin and no bonding.

It's not broken, the brake lock operates within a very narrow range of motion. As your brake shoes wear you need to rotate the nut on the end of the rear brake cable a couple turns clockwise. Not so much the wheel won't spin freely after adjustment and not so loose the brake lock does not hold.

That makes sense, especially given the low miles. It was a bit disconcerting yesterday when I set it to keep my bike from moving on my driveway and it started rolling.

I've had to adjust mine as well and it's only got just about 2K miles on it. Bought it new last year.

Anyone know if adjustments like that are part of the 600mi service?

One possible reason for the need to readjust it at 100 miles could be just the normal stretching and breaking in of the cable. If you're going to take the scooter in to the dealer for the 600 mile service, they can adjust the brake lock easily and quickly.

My pleasure, and for those of you without the brake lock the procedure is the same to keep your rear drum adjusted for optimum service throughout the life of the brake shoes. Love a scooter, always going to keep one for those hot summer short trips around town. Hope you have as much fun as I do on two wheels... we are a curious breed of rider

That's awesome. I haven't had a bike with a rear drum in a long time, so that was very helpful! (Also much easier than I remembered)
