I would like to be prepared in case of a puncture.
There are 2 repair kits available:
1) with slime ampules
2) with gummy stick patches + vulcanizing glue + CO2 ampules
and I would like your advice what to opt for.
Slime ampules are apparently easier to use but afterwords an urgent visit to the tire repair shop is required to remove the slime and save the tire and the rim.
Stick patches require more work but don't have side affects. Perhaps, if done properly, a visit to the tire repair shop is not required at all.
At the moment I am leaning toward the vulcanizing and pumping with CO2 ampules.
What do you guys carry along, if anything, and what would you recommend?

Slime is messy, some tyre dealers wont repair them, even as they wont guarantee the repair as safe as residue from the slime may prevent the vulcanizing and bonding of their plug repair, its o.k. to get you home especially if the tyre hasn't got a lot of life left, them replace with a new one.
Plugs work well (experience!) IF its a straight round hole in the tread, if its a slit or side wall puncture get a lift home.
If its not pluggable and its a good tyre you don't want to throw away you could put a tube in for the rest of the tyre life, but not practical to do out on the road.
Even after plugging out on a ride I would replace the tyre as soon as possible in my opinion although I know of some bikers who have carried on using a plugged tyre for thousands of miles til the end of the tyre life.
I carry a plug/co2 kit in the hope it would get me home.

Mobile phone and breakdown insurance is my preferred option.

Totally agree about Slime. I personally carry Dynaplugs and a tiny air compressor - this lets me handle low tires along with flats.

Dynaplug Ultralite, the reamer is smaller in diameter than the heavy duty ones used with auto / truck tires. No need to remove the tire, read the reviews and decide for yourself.

For inflation, pumps for bicycles - either CO2 or the small hand pumps (about 12" long and 1" diameter) are fine. Checkout your local bicycle store and compare. Some people don't like the CO2 ones because they can freeze up the tire valve if the pump is not seated properly.

By now I've definitely scrapped the idea of the slime.
I'll go for plugs with glue + CO2, hoping that I'd never have to use it.

My superstitious me tells me to buy the repair kit and I'll never have a puncture. Don't buy and I'll have a flat once a month...
