Centre stand cracking problem.

When I 'move forward' on the purchase of a used PCX, I'll be looking at 2016/2017 examples. I've seen many with very, very small mileages - which suggests they've stood for some time on their centre stands.

I recall that in the past, these stands were suspect, inasmuch as a number of them cracked at the crankcase and allowed oil to seep out. Has the problem been overcome? Stronger crankcases or different mounts?

Thanks.

The Center Stand cracking problem occurred on the pre-2013 models due to a design flaw. As far as I know Honda fixed the problem on later models. I have two 2013 models, both with production dates of late 2012. Neither of them has had the Center Stand problem. I inspect them often. However, over in the UK the weather and roads take their toll on everything, so a good inspection and cleaning ever so often is suggested for all bikes over there, especially their weldpoints.
If you are going to make a trike from it you CAN remove the centerstand, though it may not be necessary.

I've not heard of any reports of cracked centrestand mounts on the eSP engines.

Thanks everyone - good to know that that particular initial hiccup has been overcome.

Big decision soon - Pearl Siena Red (that's the dark metallic red here in the UK) or Pearl Cool White - and if that's the only major decision to be made, I'll be well lucky!

Thank you again.

I'm leaning that way ... although ... on a trike ... I'm not likely to lean.

Seriously, the Red is so much like a much loved car I owned 20 years ago, it was followed by an identical model - even same colour with the same upholstery. But White appeals more as this is purely a summer/sunshine toy, I feel I'll be a little more visible (especially if I fit those LEDs that Mel46 has on his front forks) and somehow, can't explain why ... the White appears slightly larger than any other colour. I emphasise 'appears' as I know that's ridiculous.

The white is in my opinion the best color for the PCX... just beautiful !

Not really a fair question because there are a lot of "white" followers on this forum.
Be a rebel, get the red. White may appear to be the fastest, but rrr..eeee..dd zooms past the white!!

Really though, since you can change the color by replacing panels just go with the color that is most common over there, or at least the easiest to get replacement panels for.

I just happen to like red more because I believe you can be seen better with red. When we purchased our bikes we only had the choices of red or black, and red was definitely sexier. As time has gone by though, we have found others with white bikes from prior to our production year. Those panels could fit our bike as well with a few exceptions, though I still prefer the red.

The point is, with some investigating you will probably find that you can change the color if you want to mix things up a little just by changing some panels. They are easy enough to replace, once you have done it a few times.

That is something I regard as a bonus with the PCX - no resprays, just "whip 'em off and pop on the new 'uns" - and keep the old ones to mix and match when the mood takes us.

Warning! Before the "whip 'em off" begins, buy some backup fasteners. Lots of plastic ones hold their clothes on. They can go "Snap" pretty easily.

Yes they can. It will take some practice and maybe a few broken or lost pieces before you get proficient, but after that you can spend the winter months checking out different color combinations. However, if you trike your PCX you will probably have some custom parts that you may not have replacements for. Something worth considering.
