Backrest for PCX150

Hi Everyone--

I am a just joined member and I was wondering if there are any backrest kits out there for the PCX, similar to those that use the butt rest for a back rest and use the two holes in the seat as an attachment point. I would hope that if they exist there would be some adjustment so the seat would give a little more legroom when riding.

I guess I should be the one to ask you to go into your profile and add your location. That usually helps us to answer your questions relative to where you are.

Now, on the subject, I would have to guess that you would like a backrest for the rider, not the passenger. That would be hard to do without redoing the entire seat, meaning also that the passenger space would be encroached into. Removing the hump would also require removing the two attachment points because if you want more leg room you would be sitting on those attachment points, and they are hard plastic.

Go to http://Www.powerbypcx.com and look at what they have done with their seats.
Or you can go to this site. http://www.mpmotorseat.com/HONDAPCXSEAT/BACKREST-STYLE

Because I ride solo, I mounted my top box on the pillion and it works as a nice back rest.
I plan to add a lumbar pad to it and make it even more comfortable.

:) Hi ghuseman and welcome to our forum(s).
You're not the first to inquire about a rider's backrest. Those of us that have weak or bad backs would open arms to any form of support or relief while riding, esp on those longer distances.

I will share what I have found over the years on other forums and on the WWW, (I'm stating I've not had any experience with either of them).

Note: More than likely you would have to contact both of them to Make "Yours" Happen

That is pretty cool but for me that bag would be overkill with the storage space it comes with. The backrest, well I have lower back issues so maybe that would be a good idea. Have to add that to my list of things to do when I get the scooter.

I'm hoping there is a 'breakaway' in this backrest.
The thought of a rear ender makes me 'cringe'.
Although, lots of things make me 'cringe' at my age.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I was hoping there was some type of kit like on some of the bigger scooters.

That is the problem. It isn't a BIGGER SCOOTER. There isn't much demand for a backrest on little scooters. It can be done, but it looks like you will have to draw up the plans and have an upholstery shop do it for you.

I have ideas, but probably will never do anything about them. Imagine an inflatable back rest so that you could adjust how the support feels to you individually. Use two long, heavy L brackets to hold the backrest in place.

I'm maybe going to try something. I have Givi arms on the back of mine - moved them from the 125 to the 150. On them, is bolted a milk crate.

I may be taking a trip to Spokane, 180 miles away...just for the halibut. I mean, I have business there, but I'll leave the cage and bigger bike and try a test-tour with this.

Anyway. The milk crate is set up so the rear of the seat JUST clears it. Put a piece of luggage in front of it, and - as I sit on the hump socket, since I'm long-legged - I'll have my back-pad.

See how it goes. If it's comfy enough, I might make something with hinged arms, fold up to open the underseat, and down to brace my lower back when riding.

This is what I presently use for a backrest. I added permanent straps to hold the gas can on, and as a backup for the ROK strap that is holding the Styrofoam in place. I set it up so that on longer trips I could carry a small gas can and still leave room in the top box and under my seat for whatever else I wanted to carry. It all works great, and I should know. I have had 8 back surgeries.

What's the seat there?

I'm getting tired of sitting on that padding-free zone where the butt-stop went. And with my height, that's where I wind up.

I had mpmotorseat.com make a custom one for me. Then I bought a gel seat pad and had my wife create a cover for it. I attached it to the seat using a ROK strap.

http://www.mpmotorseat.com/HONDAPCXSEAT

From that point on it was just a matter of finding or creating the correct size of packing Styrofoam, the softer type that doesn't squeak when you lean against it.

I put that inside a black bag that I happened to have and I sealed it with Gorilla tape and connected that to the seat using a ROK strap. I slide it back against my tail box when riding to make sure the support is stable. (It can move about 1 inch back and forth for easy access to my underseat storage.)

Has anyone here bought & used one of these seats? It specifically says "Allows the Driver to Have a Better Position More at Rear - Made on a New Base Reworked Slightly Lowest".

https://www.powerbypcx.com/en/accessori ... results=31

Says and looks like it moves the hump back and looks like it would be a decent basis for fitting a backrest. Considering how many PCXs are sold, I'm surprised that Honda or some aftermarket shop doesn't sell a solo seat - or a solo seat with a backrest.

Springer1, I had one of those seat once. Eventually i sold it and purchased the one I have now. The seat was OK, but it did not have enough padding for me.

Thanks Mel. Aside from the slim padding, was the seating position shifted to the rear a bit like they advertise so it seemed to help in that regard ?

Springer1, if you look at the picture xixon provided you will see that the frame on the PCX angles up sharply. There really isn't much room to allow the rider to sit much further back.

The seat you are interested in does allow the rider to sit further back, but it had to sacrifice padding on the seat in order to do it.
If you purchase it I would suggest that you also purchase a gel seat cushion for more comfort, but that is just me. Some have been happy just the way it is.

affeno, very interesting setup. Does the backrest swing up out of the way when you open the seat? Is the whole assembly bolted on somewhere so that it can be moved to get under the seat?
