High Oil Consumption. Options for Recondition or Repair.

Hi,
2014 PCX 150. 44,015km. Oil consumption increasing rapidly (doubled over past 8,000kkm). Currently 100ml per 1000km.
No other issues with the bike. Not looking to change.
I'm assuming that the high oil consumption is due to engine wear (no leaks).
Does anyone have any knowledge of reconditioning options?
Thanks.

If you keep it another 44,000 km...... 44 x 100ml = 4.4litres
4.4 litres of oil is massively cheaper than having the engine repaired.

Try a heavier grade of oil?

I agree with gn and you you.. up the oil weight and run it. I'd probably wait on a rebuild until your exhaust turns blue, although you can start researching rebuild kits.

You can do a compression test or preferably a leakdown test. You just might need a new cylinder head which isnt too bad .

Thanks for the replies.
Problem isn't the consumption, it's the rate of change. It's doubling approx every 4000km. Currently using 15W50. Is there a better oil grade?
No apparent drop in power to date.
What kind of work is involved in replacing cylinder/piston?

Heavier oil will not cure the issue. If it is not leaking out, it is going past the rings or the vale guide seals. Does it smoke. If so is it worse after idling for while or while it is going down the road.
Inspect the spark plug. If it looks normal, it is most likely the exhaust valve guide seal. If it is black and sooty, it is either the rings, or the intake valve guide seal.

If you go to that trouble, get yourself a Takegawa 175cc kit. Comes with everything you need to build a nice fast motor.

Intake and exhaust valve seats are the weak link...

simple head work will fix it, it's just probably either the valve seals or the piston rings..not that expensive
