I have an issue filling up the gas on my Honda PCX - mainly the gas nozzle doesn't go all the way in. The metal bar in the fuel tank opening blocks it, and gas doesn't come out until its deep enough. So how can I fill up the gas? Can anyone help me? Thanks !

I my experience, you have to actually back the nozzle off from that "full level" bar. It serves as the marker for "full." If you set the nozzle against the bar, it will trigger the back flow device and shut it off.

Unlike a car, you can't get the nozzle fully seated with the rubber gasket against the filler neck with the PCX.

PCX Commuter is dead-on. You can't rest it on the bar, put the nozzle so that just the tip is in, and fill. You'll have to carefully watch to see when the bike is full, because it will be overflowing before the nozzle automatically shuts off.

Filling it up is one of our biggest challenges. My wife hates it, especially if she ends up with one of those handles that she has to squeeze hard to start because it doesn't flow smoothly. I have had to fuel it for her in those circumstances. I have to watch it as it flows in and slow it down when it gets close to the top. Keep in mind that it only takes 1.6 gallons. Most of the time we fill up when she gets down about a gallon. My scooter, in contrast, takes 3.4 gallons and only gets half the mileage hers does.I have a hard time imagining getting 100 mpg! This little engine is just amazing.

Never had any problems filling up. Possibly the pump nozzles are different in the uk.

I've still never filled mine up in a service station. Just fill up my 10L and 20L jerry cans whenever I fill my car up and refuel from the jerry cans in my garage. Its easier pouring from the 10L can as 20L gets a bit heavy! My lawn mower is 4 stroke so any spare fuel goes into that!

Does the gas pump handle look like this?

If the pump has the black accordion piping on the spout, you will have difficulties. The black part of the nozzle has to be compressed before the pump will work. The neck on your gas tank is too short to compress it sufficiently.

Either you need to pull back the accordion with one hand, and pull the trigger with the other, or get a short piece of PVC pipe to put on top of your gas tank opening which in effect lengthens the neck of your gas tank, and allow the pump to work.

I pull back with the left hand while the right pulls the trigger SLOWLY. I put the nozzle in as far as it will go.

Those nozzles are definitely different to the UK

you could also get a couple of gas cans and fill it with those at home.

This type nozzle is mostly used in large urban areas for pollution control. The outer black housing is supposed to suck gasoline fumes back into the pump rather than let them escape into the air. There are lingering questions whether they have any value, and rumors suggest they will be phased out. We'll see...

They are easy to use on a typical car with a sufficiently long throat on the gas tank. But just like the short neck on the PCX, filling a portable gas can is a chore. If you push the nose in far enough into the can for the fuel to flow, the nose will be so far down in the can that it will only half fill before shutting off. Again, you gotta pull back on the black sleeve whilst pulling the trigger, or the gas won't flow.

None of us said we loved these things, although it is a less smelly job filling your car.

We don't have that type of nozzle in Georgia, ours are much simpler looking -- no accordion sheath thing.

Excellent idea.

I've heard some bikers carry a 4" long piece of PVC pipe to use the same way. Wouldn't look as pretty, but is cheaper.

In California ALL of the gas pumps have that accordion like filler top. All of us out here when filling our motorcycles are accustomed to holding back that accordion thingie (a highly technical term) with our fingers.
But be careful since it kinda disables the automatic shut off.
