movin on up

Post by clevelandscooter »

Just purchased my pcx150 today here in cleveland, and will pick it up next tuesday , hopefully in time for nicer weather.
I've been riding hondas for the past 10 years, first a 1984 honda aero 125, and the past 5 years on a honda elite 125, a bike which I truly love but at 29 years old might be ready for slower days.
I'm looking forward to comparing the new honda technology with the old, though I am going to keep the 125 elite for nostalgia and the occasional errands.

Turn the Elite into a "skelly" and ride it like a hooligan. ;)

What a great scoot! You could tell the other guy here who wondered if Hondas "die" in two or three years. I suggest you never part with your gem.

I think I've seen your scooter in a famous movie -- it was ridden by Linda Hamilton in Terminator (the original #1). Now I know why "1984 was never like 1984". Maybe Steve Jobs had one of those futuristic scooters that changed the world.
I have learned from my mistakes, and I am sure I can repeat them exactly.

Just tell her that Honda Scooters are like fine wines. They only get better. Keep your old scoot or you will regret it! Here is my 1986 Elite 250:

P.S. I also saw your scooter in the original Terminator movie.

Thanks, my elite has 10,000, but ive got to be honest after being on the pcx150 for a day now, I don't know if i will keep the elite 125. The PCX really is that good: zippy, nimble, beautiful I think it's all I realistically need. plus I have a bicycle collection that is now at 7, and running outta room quickly.
But for a quick review of the PCX from one day. wow. I got a great deal via a local dealer, and now if the weather would only change :x I'll be in my element!
Cheers!

Apologies for suggesting turning that scooter into a "skelly". It would be criminal to abuse one as nice as that.
Do it to a beater.....maybe.

Justifying 2 scooters should be easy, I have 4 scooters and 1 dirt bike in my garage right now.

Just a quick update, i've hit the first 50 miles, which would be more but for this damnable cleveland weather.
I'm loving the bike, just so nimble and spry compared to my older scooter, and i find the underseat storage quite ample, though my first upgrade will be a top case or bags. it really sips the gas I can already see though I haven't taken it over 50 yet it seems quite agile.
My shop told me to bring it in at 800 miles for first service, then I imagine I can really break it in.
the only 2 things i miss that my old honda elite had are, rear brake was on right floor, getting used to both brakes on the bars.
I miss the signal indicator, the old elite had a chirp-chirp that let you know the turn signal was still engaged, while the silent indicator of the pcx has left me riding at times with the signal still on.
Thanks!

I am surprised that your dealer said not to bring it in until it hit 800 miles. I believe the book says 600. We brought ours in at 600 and they had to adjust the valves. It costs for them to do that because they have to take off almost all of the Tupperware. We put my Burgman 400 in at the same time as our PCX and the Burgman was out of the shop 30 minutes later. The little PCX took a lot longer. All in all though, the PCX is a beautiful scooter. The more we ride it, the more we want to ride it. Put a windscreen on it though. You will enjoy it more with one on it. Also, the seat is not the most comfortable one out. You may choose to get it modified or replaced.
Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150

Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

I was probably going to be selling my old elite next weekend, I just wanted to ask what some folks thought was a reasonable sale price, i'm probably going to go the craigslist route as the ebay sellers fee can be a bit steep.
it has 10,940 miles, excellent cosmetic shape, honda topcase and shop manual, all functions work A-1 and it starts and runs great. I was thinking 800-900 USD, wondered what other people might thing about that sale price. Cheers.

One of the members in our local scooter club is selling his silver 85 Honda Elite 150 for $800 (asking), but it has 16,000+ miles and is in no where near as nice as yours (nor is it the deluxe model). I've been seriously considering buying it from him, but I need another scooter like I need a DVD rewinder. Another member has an 86 that is a deluxe, 11,000 miles, candy red and is in MINT condition... he said if he decided to sell it he felt confident he could get $1300 for it without a problem. I'm also holding off buying the 85 in hopes of buying the 86...I'm working on convincing him to buy a new PCX. I am amazed how nicely these things run and how reliable they still are after all these years.

That's called the "Audible pilot" as explained here:

I miss not having that on the PCX as well.
