Honda PCX 125 Service Time

Post by jojo87 »

Hey,

I purchased a slightly used PCX yesterday,
2013 model... and it had done 2614 Miles.

I Noticed in the Service Manual it was first serviced at 1569 miles on 9/8/13,
it's only had the 1 Service so far.

When would I need to get it redone? would it be now?
as I read that it needs to be done at 2500 miles.

Also for a second Service, is there a rough idea of how much this would cost?
I know different places charge difference prices,
but being female, the Garages around here like to try their luck and charge more,
so what sort of price is decent, and what price is stupid?

Thanks a lot.

Not sure where you are - UK/US? 1st service should be at 600, mostly good to get the 1st oil change done. London dealers quoted me these kind of figures:
First Service (600 miles) £71.75, Second Service (2500 miles or 6 months) £110.00, Third Service (5000 miles or 6 months) £118.00
Fourth Service (7500 miles or 6 months) £125.00, Fifth Service (10000 miles or 6 months) £118.00, Sixth Service (12500 or 6 months) £130.00
Seventh Service (15000 miles or 6 months) £245.00
These prices may not always cover parts i.e. parts not normally part of the service.
I've already pre-booked the 1st service, just not sure how many more I will have done to keep the warranty. As it's the new 2015 model, with unknown's regarding changes and longevity (led lighting panels, etc), I'm waiting to see if service info comes out from users on this forum or the manual is available when the US PCX150 2015 model comes out - UK dealers keep telling me these will not be any paper manuals for customers from now on - it's all on-line for dealers. I think this may not be true for countries outside the UK.

Hey,
Im in the UK....
first service was the 1569, guess the previous owner left that a little late!

You said 600 and then 2500 so 1900 miles between them,
so if the first service was done at 1569, should I wait until i've done 1900 miles making it 3469 miles for the second service,
or get it done now as im now on 2675 now....

I have the manual and service book obviously but cant find anywhere in them that states the actual mileage/times to get them done,
im guessing it's always good to get a service done more regularly but to be honest they're pretty pricey!
especially as not much really needs to be done on the first couple.

I can remember going to the Garage before with an old Bike and quickly went past and asked a Service quote and they said £85,
I then went to another and they were £65, but then noticed awhile after, after going back for 3 services, that nothing was actually done!!!!!

Also a Honda Dealer is a far way from me, i'd rather go there but cant ride that far,
so im stuck to small Garages around my area, but still after the last one, dont really trust them, especially as it's just me and they like to take the piss.

EDIT:

Also just read on this Website that the Valve Checks dont need to be done until 7500 miles?
and that the second service is basically just Oil changes...?
is this something I can tell the Mechanic?
basically say the Valve Check doesnt need doing, and its basically the Oil change and what not,
hopefully get it done for a decent price,
with previous Bikes I did Oil change myself and SparkPlugs etc but obviously 2013 Bike and to keep the warranty you need the book stamped!

Just need to know now WHEN I should get the second service done,
now, or wait abit.

Welcome to the forums!

That is late for the first service. Here's the maintenance schedule:

http://hondapcx.org/download/file.php?id=384

The intervals are just that -- intervals. I'd get your oil changed at 5000 miles / 8000 kilometers and follow the schedule from there. Since the first change was done late, you could push it back if you want to, but I'd just get the bike back on schedule.

I HIGHLY recommend you do the oil change yourself. I understand that the valve adjustment can be tough every other service, but your next service doesn't involve the valves, and a basic oil change is trivial. The how-to is here: http://hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25 and if you have any questions, we're always glad to help. :D

If you want to retain a warranty the service schedule must be followed.
Yours has already failed to meet the service schedule, so your warranty is effectively stuffed.
This means you don't need to worry about keeping to the official service schedule.
So oil changes every 5000 miles, valve check every 10,000 miles, belt, rollers, sparkplug and air filter every 15,000 miles and new coolant and brake fluid every two years.
Brake pads and tyres as required.

Thanks a lot for the help,
so im pretty much sorted now until I hit 5000 miles?
and then get back on track with it all.

I did change the Oil on my last Bikes, seemed pretty easy to do,
once im nearly at 5000 miles i'll go back to the Garage and see how much it'll cost for them to do it though,
as i'd rather someone specialised in it all to do it,
obviously if it costs too much, i'll do it myself.

I was told by the previous Owner that the rear Tyre needs changing,
I took it to the Garage today and the Mechanic said it should of been changed ages ago, after looking at it,
does anyone know where I can get a decent prices/good Tyre from?
my Stepdad knows someone that can fit it cheap which is good,
just been looking on eBay and seeing them for around £50?
was going to get both but the front actually looks fine,
just the rear needs doing.

Wonderful Bike though!!!
only issues i've found is the Fuel 'door' doesnt quite lock on properly, rattles and moves a little,
and the Seat is a KILLER after riding for an hour+
other than that it's a really nice Bike and a lot better than my previous 4.

Yep, that's the correct tyre size for the rear wheel of a PCX.
They last much longer than the original tyres which is nice.

Strange -- my stock rear tire lasted 8000 miles. You should get a lot more out of the new tire, it's unusual for them to wear that fast.

My rear tyre only lasted 4500 miles. It might be a difference in the road surface.

My first one got changed at 4700 miles, should perhaps have been changed sooner.
Second IRC one made it to 6000odd miles and was totally baldy.
The IRC is a far softer tyre than the Michelin Citygrip
Maddies last so long because he only weighs about a hundred pounds piss wet through with a three course steak dinner in him

I've done 107 miles in 3 days, just riding around the streets getting used to it...
think i'll be doing more than the 3000 miles in a year (which is on my insurance)

I'm guessing it's pretty simple to get the rear Wheel off?
once the Exhaust is taken off, there wont be any issues getting it back on correctly?
reason for asking is because once I took the Exhaust off on my previous Aprilia.. when it went back on, it started popping etc,
is this Honda pretty simple to sort?
Exhaust off, Nuts off, Wheel off, Tyre change, then back on as normal?

Exhaust off. Swingarm / bracket thing off, sometimes the little mudguard thing needs to be slackened as well then wheel off. You may have to back off the brake adjuster as well to make it easier. I put a bit of grease on the spindle of the arm bearing to aid removal the next time as I believe they can seize on a bit. I would check the rear brake and give them and the brake pivots a clean as well since the wheel is off.

Yup, like Alibally suggested, it's a trivial procedure.

- Remove two bolts on exhaust studs on the engine block, under the scooter. You'll likely need a deep socket set and an extension to do it right.
- Remove the three bolts holding the exhaust to the swingarm. Remove exhaust. Note there is a small metal gasket on the exhaust where it meets the engine block -- make sure that is in place or you will get popping, a loss of power, and a lot of loudness.
- Remove the two bolts holding the swingarm to the engine block.
- Remove the bolt holding the rear right suspension to the swingarm. Push the right shock slightly forwards, out of the way.
- Remove the main axle nut.
- Slide the swingarm off the right side.
- Use an allen key to unscrew the mudflap on the right side, and push the mudflap up out of the way.
- Slide off rear wheel. You may need to tap on it with a mallet while rotating it to work it off.

If you have trouble, report back, I'll walk you through any issues you may have. :D

Ok thanks a lot...

other thing, I noticed the Brake Pads are a little small...
again, i've seen some on eBay for decent prices,
but can someone direct me to the 'best' but decent priced ones.

Thanks :-)

EDIT:

Thought those Tyres were here in the UK aswell,
but they're from France...
does anyone know the rough time they take to get here?
purchased 30th May but it's still in France according to the Tracking.
