is the speedo connected to the throttle rather then the spinning wheels

Hmm....What does insurance have to do with any of what your asking?
Your scoot was on "center stand" running, you're opening/twisting the throttle spinning the rear wheel then applying the rear brake. Purpose of this? Speedo reads while R. wheel rolls. Correct?
Is it me?

I think what he's saying is that he was revving the engine while the rear brake was engaged so the wheel itself wasn't moving, but the speedometer was. A pretty good question if you got ticketed before even though your speedometer said you were within the speed limit.

I think they also offer aftermarket speedometers if you don't trust the manufacturer equipment. Or if you prefer digital over analog displays.

Now as for revving the engine with the brake applied, just don't do it, you'll trash either the clutch or the belt or both.
The speedo gets its info from the rear wheel.

andyscooter, the speedometer has an electronic pickup on the rear wheel. There is actually a black plastic cover at the base of the left rear shock, that is your speed sensor under there. Don't rev the engine with the rear brake applied as you are burning or have burnt up your clutch shoes. If the speedometer is reading and the rear tire is being held by the brake, then the gears inside are turning and your clutch shoes are slipping. bad idea. Actually, correction. The clutch is driven by the belt and the clutch bell is engaged by the shoes. The rear gears only turn when the clutch bell is engaged and the rear wheel is splined to the gears. In theory the only way that the speedometer could be moving significantly while the rear wheel is holding still would be if something was completely broken in the rear gearbox.

I see no possible way, other than a major malfunction, that the speedo/odo could possibly read
anything other than zero while the tires remaining still.

didnt have brake pressed as was holding camera

still never had a scoot that the speedo works when the bike isnt moving though

reason i had it running on the stand is it hasnt been used for a while so started it just to make sure it would

warmed it up a bit and introduced some revs

this is when i noticed the speedo was moving up to about 30mph then pulled the brake as scooter started to vibrate on its stand

That's normal for it to vibrate on the center stand if you are revving it up. Congrats that your Suzuki does not.

Please keep in mind that the center stand is directly attached to the motor.

I would think you suzuki runs its speedo off the front wheel where as the pcx runs it off the back.

I followed the wiring diagram in service manual from speedometer and that wire goes to the vs sensor at the rear wheel behind the air box
