Bought my PCX today

Post by Jge64 »

Bought and paid for a metropolitan last week that I have yet to pick up. In reading this site and others I started to realize that it was just going to be too slow for many roads in Ft Laud that I'm going to be on. So this morning I recontracted for a PCX. Got the white one so I can do some paint striping my way on the bike. Stay tuned, pics soon!

Thanks to the guys at Riva motorsports in Pompano Beach , they were a treat to deal with....

Wise decision. My PCX is way more functional than the 50cc Yamaha Vino I had long ago.

Now the question is, and I'm sure I should put in accessory section, but do I need the tall windshield. I am never going to be above 40 -45 miles an hour in Fort Lauderdale on neighborhood roads. I'm holding off…

Wise move. Try it first. A windshield doesn't make an enormous difference.

Ft. Lauderdale can get steamy, as it can here in Dallas. I've kept the original screen to stay a bit cooler in warm weather. There's almost no air flow behind my police bike's fairing--good in the winter but a killer in weather like today's 98-degree F heat index. In using the PCX around town, I'm also at 40-45mph and have never felt the need for more wind protection.

The wind, or airflow is one of the best parts of being on a bike! You're not a police motorcyclist are you?

I rode a Burgman 400 (the one I traded for my PCX) around West Palm. Good move on the PCX though, you would have gotten eaten alive in South Florida traffic on the Metro. It goes without saying watercooling is better for that area, too. Try to park in the shade. When I rode my Burgman to work, if I didnt get a shady spot, the grips and levers were almost too hot to touch after work! *oUcH*, even with a cover on!

Another White! Welcome & Congrats on buying a PCX. Smart move.
About adding a taller windscreen, I'm with others, hold off. Enjoy some wind and air on those hot hot tropical days. But if the Bugs start bugging you? Well, you'll know what to do (take the car  )
I lived in Florida for 15 years, I welcomed a taller screen on buggy days. You must know what I'm talking about ;)
Oh, and I'm anxious to see pics of yer pinstripping. Have you done it on other bikes?

Nope. Used to be in law enforcement but am an attorney now. Use the (former) police bike for marshaling/escorting bicycle and other charity events primarily. (In case somebody's wondering, the bike has no police markings/siren/red& blue lights, btw.)

White's the fastest color! ;)

I wouldn't ride without my huge windshield in FL, especially because of all the bugs. You'll probably change your mind, a big windshield makes a huge difference in protection, and you still get enough wind to stay cool.
Currently ride: 2011 Honda PCX 125 - Upgraded windshield and seat, keeping this one mostly stock
Previously rides: 2005 V-Strom DL650, 1974 Vespa Ciao, 2011 Honda PCX 170 (tons of mods - takegawa 170cc big bore kit, gears, etc), 1996 Honda Nighthawk 250, 1987 Honda Spree, 2000 KTM 125SX, 2003 Honda Silverwing, 2007 Genuine Buddy 125, 1998 Honda PC800, 2008 Buddy 125 (white), 2008 Buddy 125 (red), 2001 Honda Reflex, 1987 Honda Elite, 1988 Honda Spree, 2007 Yamaha Vino, 2007 Honda Metro, 2x 125cc pure-chinesium dirt bikes

I think I can hold off on the windshield… I'm right on the beach so the wind blows the bugs away from me ....I'm not in buggy weather at all certainly not like Orlando and love bugs. Wrote a BMW K 1100 RS for years down here with no bug problems, where I'm at.... This is a neighborhood form of transportation, everybody else bought a golf cart, I wanted a scooter.!!

Thanks for all the replies…

So I'm still on the road and scoot is waiting for me to get home July 1 but I've been busy with a few ideas already. Here's the 1st round of mods planned.

Decalzone sells diff widths of car striping tape I've used before so I'll play around with adding some color to the white canvas to get some more viz...prob 1/2 inch, initial thoughts include some , but prob not all of these:
Image

Will de badge the scoot, I hate plastic badges and have no need to tell people what type scoot it is. Mostly as it's easier to detail though, no white stuff around the badge. I use fishing braid and goo gone when I debadge.

Lowering shocks going on, great DIY here...thanks, may fabricate a CNC extender allowing me to go back to a stock length.

Will prob move all lights to LED except headlight

Deft will bob the rear fender with a dremel cut off wheel, per the DIY here.

The muff guard shown red in pic will not be red, I think I'll paint silver.....

Wheels may be a red pinstripe around rim....

More thoughts as we go forward, but overall, no mods that don't look OEM when done. No mods that look like "mods"....

see if you can find something better than this, but it can't be too wide or it will get ugly.

Thx, but due to night blindness, I won't be out at night, ever , so decal zone will work good, I've used it before.....

Jge64, I just looked over your list of planned mods/add ons. You have some good ideas there :)
But I gotta ask, Why do you want to lower it?
Also, the 2015 model has LED lighting already. Did you mean that you'd add more?

Hang tight! Order stuff! July will be here before you know it! ;)

Thanks, I may not need the LEDs, but the manual shows some halogens.....I want the shocks I can preload, but not cast in stone, I have CNC capability so an adapter at the bottom may allow both up and down heights. Striping will be far more conservative and small , in black Mettallic. Fork LEDS DRL running lights will be added, using a DRL auto on off harness, no switches. Also may POWDERCOAT the wheels in gunmetal clear gloss.

I mod for a hobby, just finished about 25 mods on my 2014 Vette.

Current stripe thinking:

Some halogens? The new models are full led lights and the owners manual states that - is this a new model or 2013 version?
