Large scuff on Givi windscreen

Post by Bidlack78 »

Wondering if there's anyway to save my windscreen. I rode my daughter up the driveway. Mistake. While she was climbing down she twisted the throttle wide open. I then preceded to ram into my push mower & scuffed a 6 in mark right in the middle

Question about is can this be polished or buffed at all or would I be wasting my time.thanks guys for any info.

Stupid me.

You can't win or loose if you don't make the bet. HF sells a headlight repair system that might buff out the scratch. http://www.harborfreight.com/deluxe-len ... 62663.html

If it is really deep, you are probably out of luck, but I think it would be worth the effort to give something a shot.
On my scoot, getting there is WAY more than half the fun!

Thanks. I'm going to try different buffing & polishing compounds. It's more of a scuff mark than a scratch.

A meguires or 3m headlight lens kit might work. Polycarb is tough stuff to get clear again.

^^ Yes, I did read that somewhere. Toothpaste removes scratches. But I don't remember from/on what. Plastic, Plexiglass, Glass?

I do not know for certain but I have Novus plastic cleaners and polish. They make it in three versions, depending on the scratch. I have all three. Supposedly Novus #3 is for heavy scratches. I used it on my Burgman's windshield when it fell on its side on my driveway. After a lot of effort (following the instructions) it took out the deep scratches. I wish I could send you some of it but the shipping might not be worth it, considering that buying all three together is only $17 at amazon. I use the #1 all the time for cleaning the bike after washing and drying it. It puts a nice coating on it, as well as on the windshield. It makes the surface so slick that a towel will just slide right off of the windshield instead of catching on the rough surfaces.
