Graze repair

Post by RideLondon »

Sorry if this has been posted before- I'm after a bit of advice.

Today I noticed there is a small, but deep, graze on the front of my 2015 white PCX:

Image

Someone must have scraped past me while parked.

What I need is a touch- up pot, just like you buy for cars. Now I spoke to the guy at local Honda garage. He told me "Honda don't sell touch- up paint for bikes", and he directed me to a company called R S Motorbike paints in Hertfordshire.

Do I need to buy the touch- up paint from them? The 2015 "pearlescent" white is a different shade of white to the previous years I believe? So I need to be sure I get the right colour.

Any help is greatly appreciated

I'm in London, UK.

http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-us/colour ... dyear=2013

On that website, under 2013 PCX, they have "pearl cool white" listed as a colour. But I'm guessing that is different to the 2015 white.

AFAIK the white used on all PCX models is Pearl Himalaya White.
The colour code should be on a sticker under the seat.
This looks like the stuff, but check first...

Pearl Himalaya white is pre- 2012, after that it's "pearl cool" and then I think 2015 is a different colour too, "pearlescent". If you look on the drop down boxes on that site for the different years you'll see that pearl Himalaya is different to pearl cool

Ha wow, that's the colour I need! But I also need the specific basepaint and the lacquer. It's a 2 stage paint.

Great to know you can buy these - esp. if they are the right colour (white with silver bits and not white with gold bits)

Have you checked to see how much a replacement panel would cost? In the end it might look better and be easier than touching up. The finish on the white '15 PCX is a really nice Pearl

There are company's that do smart repairs on small paint blemishes like that. Someone like chips away or such like might do a reasonable job. Probably better that doing it yourself unless you just want a quick touch in to take your eye off it.

Liquid paper or tipex with some glitter in it? Joking...........

Ok I've bought the three required touch- up bottles (base layer, Pearl Cool white paint, and lacquer), and they will probably arrive on monday.

He said that with three- stage paints, its quite tricky to do it yourself. I do want it to look as good as it can, so I might take it to a body shop and see if they'll do it for cheap. If not I might have to try to do it myself. The small bottles cost me £35! That's about $55.

In the U.S., that panel is $23US to purchase. A bigger problem is removing and replacing it! Lol

^ yep, that's exactly why I didn't suggest that  However, it can be done if the 2014/2015 plastics are available. Who said December?

Just a quick stupid question. While I am waiting to paint over that graze, is there any risk of rust?
