Might have to get something a little bigger than my PCX :/

Post by JoshuaJohnson111089 »

Just moved back to my home state of Louisiana from Denver, CO and I have been thinking about getting rid of my PCX for a bigger bike. I have longer rides now that I don't live in a metro area and I hate to only go 45 or 50 most of the way (not sure its great on the bike either). Having a bigger bike for a passenger wouldn't be a bad idea either. Too bad cause I love the MPGs :/

Is yours white? How many miles, are you interested in selling it? How much would you take for it?

Lots of people have found the PCX isn't quite enough. It's capable for almost everything, and almost feels capable of going on the highway... But isn't, only by a bit. The PCX150 is going to be highway capable, but it'll be costly for you to sell yours and get a new one.

Are you planning on sticking with scooters, or getting a motorcycle if you upgrade?
Currently ride: 2011 Honda PCX 125 - Upgraded windshield and seat, keeping this one mostly stock

Maybe not that costly - PCX150 MSRP is only $50 more than PCX125.

True -- but he would have to sell his, taking a huge loss, then buy the 150 new for at least $1000 more.

I wish we could all just trade up for $50, that would be awesome.

It's all the more reason for me to pile the miles on my PCX though. If I blow it up, I'll replace the engine with a 150. :D

Might even be more simple than an engine swap. Its tough to know for sure until we have access to a parts diagram for the 150, but the differences between the engine specs are still very similar. For only a $50 price difference, I highly doubt that honda made any huge changes. We may be able to change our 125's into 150's using nothing but honda parts. Of course we will need the new piston and cylinder, but the head may very well stay the same. The boar measurements between the two engines is different but the stroke is exactly the same (meaning that the piston travels the same distance between the two engines). Me thinks that honda just made its very own big boar kit and slapped it into previously designed engines. Hopefully the parts become available and arent too expensive! Seeing that both engines are SOHC and still have only 2 valves, I'm hoping that the cylinder head is staying the same. ECU is the only thing thats questionable to me.

The 150 is a variant of the new eSP engine which has a number of significant differences to the original engine, so a 150 conversion may not be so easy.

Thats right, but I thought most of the changes were in the cylinder head and shape. I would be replacing those. I'll have to find that link with all the differences, but im still hopeful.

Well here is what I need.....

1. Must be able to go 60mph without a problem. So top speed should be around 80-90mph. Around 300ccs????
2. Would like a smaller bodied bike. Not a maxi like the honda silverwing/yamaha majesty
3. Would like it to be comfortable and able to ride two passengers

I'm really digging the new Piaggio BV350s and the Vespa 300 Supers.

Anybody had any time with those?

A guy I ride with regularly rides a BV350, he loves it. I think he has around 30000 miles on one, and his partner has about 15000 miles on another. I rode it once, it was surprisingly nimble for its size. The ride was super smooth compared to the PCX too.

I was also thinking of getting a Kymco People GTi300......I'm just worried about support in my area. We have an excellent Honda/Yamaha dealer and a barely there Piaggio/Vespa dealer. The Kymco dealer is hour an hour away so I don't know if that is good choice. Might as well bite the bullet and get a Majesty :o

Same thing here - bunch of Honda/Yamaha dealers but little support for other brands.
This is the reason I decided to switch to Japanese scoots :)
