The specification for Final Drive oil is Pro Honda HP4M 4-stroke oil or equivalent.
API service classification: SJ or higher
JASO T 903 standard: MB
Viscosity: SAE 10w-30
Basically the Pro Honda HP4M 10w-30 is prescribed. . .but not every Honda dealer carries it. It's seems easier to get the same oil in the 10w-40 viscosity however, which I did. Where I live I can use the 10w-40 in the engine but wanted to see what others are having success with in the Final Drive before I change it out and replace it. Since I can't find the HP4M 10w-30 around where I live I'd be willing to use something else. . .like maybe Mobil 1 synthetic?

Just use whatever you use in the engine. I buy a 1L for servicing and the amount leftover after doing the engine is almost the perfect amount for the final drive.

In my case it would be 10w-40 Pro Honda HP4M 4-stroke oil. I bought a few quarts when I got the PCX last month. . .plus some Honda coolant to have on hand for topping off if needed.Just use whatever you use in the engine.

Probably will work ok but not the best option. Honda uses spur or mesh gears . Gear oil is generally used in spider and hypoid gears. There could be issues with foaming and chemistry that can possibly deteriorate seals and bushings.Best to stick with recommended lubricants as the engineer's designed it for.

Isn't the answer to this question the same as it's always been?
Read the fekking manual and follow it with dash of common sense.

Ahhhh.....that's the ticket.one quart will do 3 or 4 services on the final drive
Thanks Homie. . .the forum comes through again!

I'll order a quart of the Honda 10w-30 with the Moly from that site. I can understand why it's so freaking expensive. They know you can't get it everywhere. I'll use the 10w-40 Honda oil in my engine but the Final Drive is a different animal and although I could probably get away with using the 10w-40 the 10w-30 is really the way to go.

A dash of common sense goes a long way. . .costs extra. And at 4 changes at 2 years per change I'll be an old man by then.
