Makes no sense.. you lose job, government pays you unemployment, family welfare ...the drunk driver gets to vacation at home and drink more..then buys a nice bike on your money..
License suspension ??? that's where NIKE comes in to this "just do it "" LOL
Some of the smarter judges do allow to and from work allowances when under DUI suspension..

Re: The Wave ...Obsolete ??
I've never had my license revoked. . .just like the 49cc way of life sometimes. Since my "MOPED" (49cc scooter) will do slightly better than 40 MPH I can keep up with traffic unless it's super windy or a significant hill.
Originally I was going to get a new TOMOS (were going for around $1200 at the time) but they stopped importing them to the U.S. and the company was going through some changes. From what I understand they are now selling them again here for 2017 with a redesigned A55 engine. So in the mean time I got the Genuine Roughhouse instead. No regrets with the Roughhouse.
I've ridden it across several neighboring shoreline towns more than once and actually commuted with it for a year to a job 10 miles away. It's a different experience. You have to anticipate hills and wait longer at intersections to get the opportunity to pull out so you have enough "take off" time to get up to speed and flow of traffic. I could do some mods that would make the thing faster but it sort of goes against the whole point IMHO. The PCX is a more practical ride, scooter wise, but the MOPED is like a voice in the wilderness saying "less is more". Some people get it and to some it's a fly in the ointment.

Re: The Wave ...Obsolete ??
In MA you do have a license requirement to ride a MOPED on the streets.Actually, in my state, a person who has had their driver's license revoked is not supposed to be riding even a 50 cc moped. You will go back to the slammer if you get bagged.
I don't think it is fair - how are you supposed to hold a job if you can't get to one? There is precious little decent public transportation in the USA.
In some states you don't, nor do you need a motorcycle license either. It depends where you live.
I wish I didn't make the statement about the "alcoholic" thing but they do have a reputation of being called "liquor cycles" in some areas.
Here's a link to the MOPED laws in the states. http://www.dmv.org/other-types.php

Re: The Wave ...Obsolete ??
I'm sorry but I think the wave is annoying....everyone does it around here especially Harley riders. The sport bike gang would be the last to wave but 50% still do. Frankly I hate removing my hand from the bars. Flat out unsafe at times....

Re: The Wave ...Obsolete ??
The Harleys are expensive and you have to be making good money to afford one. In that sense they are a "Yuppie" bike. . .kind of an image thing. . .riding the Legend and all. But Harley has always been an international type company. Licensing other manufacturers to make Harleys in other countries. Business is business. I remember when they went from "The Motor Company" to AMF. When that happened they used to call them "Hardly Ablesons".wen i was growing up harleys was the bike a bad boys now its a yuppie bike

Somehow I'd still like to own one. . .a Sportster perhaps. . .before I go on to the big road in the sky.

Re: The Wave ...Obsolete ??
I grew up in the country and have been driving motorized dirt bikes since age 4, and now live in Milwaukee, WI, home of Harley Davidson, and drive past the main plant on Capitol & 45 every weekday, and ride year-round (this morning it's 37°F). Wearing a brain bucket saved me twice in crowded freeway traffic, now I drive differently and at different times of the day to avoid the traffic, with just a doo-rag.Smaug wrote:In IL and WI, where I ride the most, helmets aren't mandatory. Anyone who chooses not to wear a helmet is an idiot, and they don't get a wave from me.
Also, if it's a beautiful summer day and there are lots of riders out, it's too much waving, so I'm a return waver on those days....
you you, it's not an obsession with Harley riders. If you were from around here, you'd know. They are stuck up assholes, for the most part. Lots of them, if they see a radiator, and can't see a lot of chrome, they won't even look. Or maybe they can't see well enough, because they've only got sunglasses for eye protection, and their eyes are watering?
On the chopper there's no avoiding the waves, it's a sign of respect. On the scooter, no waves, it's a d@mn scooter.
Don't get me wrong, it's probably the world's best all-around scooter, and it's beautiful, affordable, with an inexpensive Total Cost of Ownership, and easily modified to go 75MPH, plus the ride is excellent--far superior to other scooters and much more comfortable than my chopper. Just bought one for Squirrel, they're that good. They're easy to maintain, easy to drive, super easy to clean. --That's why they don't get respect, it's like driving a Nissan Leaf.
The chopper is a pain in the @$$, literally (the wallet too). Respect is earned.

All those hogs sitting outside the bar. Naw, no one is drinking... are they? Maybe we make them blow to get the bike to start like my neighbor has to blow to start his truck

FWIW I get waves returned more often than not on the PCX. Even when there are groups riding in formation that sound like rolling thunder. On the chopper there's no avoiding the waves, it's a sign of respect. On the scooter, no waves, it's a d@mn scooter.

In the UK it's a nod with your head. Bikers do it but not so much with scooters

There are so many scooter and motorcycle riders here I’d never have my hand onthe handlebars. The down lows when they happen are on the back roads where there aren’t that many riders.

It's funny, think about it, people thought the kind of bike you have determined the level of respect you will get. Scooters No respect, choppers deserved it. LOL
These are just freakin toys. Doesn't matter what type. We're all just kids with diff kind toys.
I think riders just want to build a culture BS just to look cool or tough? This culture thing is ridiculous.
These toys are used to go from point A to B. Enjoying the view, the travel or the destination. Lets stop pushing this as a lifestyle with its own culture.
Wave or no wave. Doesn't mean you deserved a lesser respect. Just enjoy the ride. Imo
