PCX125 finally gets some much deserved love

After my recent hit and where a car failed to give way and ended up with my clipping a kerb which caught the centre stand and ripped it off the crankcase taking a chunk of the crankcase with it, I’d thought I’d finally get round to giving my every day PCX 125 some love.
It’s a 2013 with 17,000 miles on it.

I tracked down a correct JF47E engine which I fitted, did the valve clearances before installing it, then once it was in changed engine and the gearbox oil.
Spark plug and air filter then changed the variator rollers for Malossi 12.5g ones.

Once the scoot was up and running I finally tackled the corrosion on the frame and fuel tank and gave a lovely gloss coat of black rustolium. Then fitted a full new Honda original panel kit from Max Motorcycles.
Fitted Renthal gold handler bars and LED side light bulbs.

It’s like having a new scooter again, really pleased with it.

Still to do, I’m going to fit adjustable levers, handle bar brace and blue tint headlight bulbs.

Good job. I especially like your attitude to save the bike instead of dumping it for a new one. Two thumbs up.
Your "swinging bike lift" is quite similar to what I usually do with my PCXes.
Unfortunately my larger bijes are too heavy to suspend them from the beams, so I had to make a project table to comfortably work on them.

The PCX has been such a pleasure to own I really wanted to keep it, I’ve had Gillera runners before and they would struggle with my daily ride which includes a 35 minute flat out stretch of dual carriageway Honda do build them strong.

Yes hanging the bike from the garage roof is my preferred way to work on the PCX I like that I can get it as high as is comfortable and have both wheels off, although your platform does sound interesting. Do you have a photo?

I am a little confused. You have a white PCX in the first picture, but the other pictures have a red one. Please explain. By the way, since you had it opened up, why not change the variator itself. The Malossi one would have given you a little more top end.

I think I would only change one thing at a time. In this case the minimum and get it running OK

The first photo is the finished bike I’ve changed it from red to white, I’m hoping that white is easier to see and stops me getting knocked off for a while.

I’m happy with the top end of 60-65 it’s more than enough to keep up with the trucks in lane 1 of the dual carriage way on the way to work

Hi, Some panels where okay I think 1 or 2 didn’t have cracks or scratches but when I weighed up the cost and labour of repairing and painting them, a complete new set being so cheap was very attractive option.
And I reckon the white might get me seen a bit more plus if I wear a high vis top I might just get confused with a police bike from a distance.

It’s a interesting article and explains a lot, but sure makes for depressing reading the “ride like your invisible” is something I’m going to remember

Even if I had not read that article, I have been in quite a few situations where the drivers have told me that they were sorry that they didn't see me, Even though I have a hi- viz jacket and a yellow helmet.

I read another article at some point in which the writer explained that drivers are so use to seeing a larger object (car, suv) in front of them that their eyes will not lock onto a smaller object such as a motorcycle. Thus, they really don't see us. I have had drivers move into my lane while I am still in that spot, causing me to be squeezed between their vehicle and the center median. The only way that I finally was able to get their attention was when I pressed my horn button....after I had replaced my OEM horn with a Bad Boy air horn. Believe me, it will wake a driver from a daze!

I have extra lights, and I wear bright clothing, but so many of the drivers have their attention split among other activities other than driving that it becomes MY responsibility to attract their attention, AND it becomes MY responsibility to proactively look for a way out before they put me in a situation where I will need a way out.

In the end, ride like you are invisible, because you are.

Well put Mel. I try to ride with that attitude. If I am riding along a dual carriageway where there are cars driving in front, behind or alongside me I will try to speed up slowdown change lane etc. Not erratically but I figure if I stay at the same speed as them and in the same spot relative to them they are less likely to be aware of me. They might find it annoying, but at least they acknowledge me on the road

Very very nice. I give you credit for skill and thoroughness.

I would have stopped with the new engine. And, far from replacing the old plastic with new, I would have stripped the machine naked (and am deeply pondering doing this to mine) just for the sake of easier maintenance. As it is my plastic is already so scratched, cracked and patched that it would be an aesthetic uplift for the bike to strip it away and let the bike run the streets in its birthday suit.
