what do you think about a fitted bed sheet for a cover?
I know it's kinda "Fred" to use a fitted bed sheet for a cover, but I don't need much cover, and I am cheap. I work at a cement plant, and it bugs me how dusty it is there. There is also no shade anywhere on the property. My scooter is white so I am thinking about buying a white fitted-sized bed sheet to throw over it during the day to keep the dust and sun off. I tend to do odd things so if you think this is beyond the pale, please save me the embarrassment. I don't feel like paying for a regular motorcycle cover because it is more than I need.

It will keep dust off, I guess, assuming it stays on. It is fitted for a bed. Maybe add some straps or ropes or something, or cough up the 40 clams for a real cover. I got this one and it almost seems they used a PCX as the model. It may be heavier and take up more room in your seat than you want, but it fits great.

On my scoot, getting there is WAY more than half the fun!

Is the scoot stored outside in the weather or inside a building / under roof ? If it's stored inside a building / under roof then maybe it's not a bad idea.

Please don't. Buy a cover and be done with it. A fitted sheet will look silly, won't protect, might singe on your muffler,, blow off...the list goes on.

the f-ing sun annoys me. I hate my bike sitting out in the hot sun all day. There is NO place to park it that isn't dusty and sun-baked. ugh.

I know, from many years of welding, that UV's will pass right through a white shirt (or sheet) and and still burn my skin.pattomike wrote:the f-ing sun annoys me. I hate my bike sitting out in the hot sun all day. There is NO place to park it that isn't dusty and sun-baked. ugh.
Maybe something a little heavier and darker. An old 'lite' comforter, an extra large colored towel etc.

This is what I did. It is cheap, and it gets the job done. I ordered the xxl because I have a tall windshield. It fits well and does what I needed it to do. $12.55 is cheaper than a sheet too. In fact, go with the $9.99 one. Oh, and It comes with a case.

Make sure you apply a good quality Carnuba Wax.. The Carnuba wax is a substance found in tropical jungles of Brazil(I think) that is highly resistant to UV and high humid heat environments. However no wax lasts more than 30 days despite advertising claims. Any type of tight fitting cover is better than nothing but make sure it is tight.. The constant wind blowing can create a rubbing condition and remove wax and sometimes paint. In that case nothing is better..Just use the wax and wipe with carnuba detailer spray as needed.

Would you use a bike cover as a bed sheet if it was cheaper?

No longer used for its intended purpose? Surely you'll get your monies worth re-using it elsewhere.
Covering PCX
What color? Not White! or any light color. That will show that dusty work dirt you spoke of.
So if you're going to the dark side, why not ride over to Walmart and buy one of their Very affordable scooter/mc covers? I've got one packed away in me garage. I remember it fits great!

Re: what do you think about a fitted bed sheet for a cover?
I bought an OEM Honda cover on bikerzbits SKU (08P34-KVB-700) for total of $44 shipped to US and had it in 4 days... easy on and off and silver color so it reflects the sun and hasn't let a drop of water in. I have indoor parking at home so I cover it at work to keep the dust and sun off it.

Have a look at this from Bike Bandit.
https://www.bikebandit.com/riding-gear- ... er/p/21883
The thing about covers is you need to fit them when the motor/silencer are cool. . .or at the minimum lukewarm so as not to melt anything or cause a fire. More expensive covers have more features and heat resistant materials but for something to just keep dust off. . .and used with good judgement. . .this may not be a bad deal for $10 and the reviews are good. It seems the price is the same whether you got small, medium, or large and they are on sale. On their sizing chart they claim a small is good for scooters or small dirtbikes but if it were me I'd just get a medium or large. Not sure what the shipping would cost. . .but something to think about.
I tend to try and get creative also. There are times when I wondered if a cheap, but large, bbq gas grill cover or riding lawn mower cover at a local bargain store would work.

Re: what do you think about a fitted bed sheet for a cover?
I bought an inexpensive silver tarp that I use to cover my lawn Tractor. I bought it at Harbor Freight. It may not look great but it does work. A tarp and some bungee cords should do the trick for you. It won't look great but it will work. Just figure out what size will work best for you. Sometimes you can get them for free. :-)

I'm thinking a nice periwinkle blue, or a soft Madras.

I would kill a cow, skin it, keeping the head in place. Get some nice taxidermy work done. Drape finished covering over the PCX and voila you have a cover / disguise for you scoot. In addition cut out some holes to gain access to the controls then you can ride with the cover in place. You can of course choose any animal you wish, but please stay away from endangered species.

Some misguided youth would probably shoot at it with their pellet gun thinking a cow is running loose so it is open season...
