Sad situation indeed. It's good they were able to recover it and will possibly find the culprit with further investigation.
The best thing you can do is have layers of security that will cause a thief to have to take too much time to steal a bike/scooter. If it's alarmed and there's a lot of noise they won't want to hang around. . ..
Theft insurance is a must if you have to park it in a public space.
I had a nice 250 stolen on me years ago. . .!

Automatrics... all their recovery videos are fun to watch, almost good enough for a reality show. I love seeing the police busting down the door and finding the treasure. Heck it's almost like metal detecting with the Automatrics. Hey could one of you Brits give more detail on this service, it's consumer components and cost to acquire? I don't want it myself because anything a neer-do-well jimmied they can keep as I'd rather take the insurance. Plus we have to feel sorry for our destitute and share our wealth without prejudice or hard feelings when they've hit rock bottom and resort to theft. It's ok, i've evolved now and surrendered all my weapons and anxieties.... WINNING!

My Forza came fitted (free of charge) with a similar system. I have to pay £9 per month though.
Anyway, I was in the garage last night fitting a cable to the battery for my charger when my mobile/cell phone rang and it was the security company asking me if everything was OK? They had detected a voltage drop and were checking to see if a theft was in place. Spooky!
